I'm ok with the 1 year. Prove it again.

Plus your top priority 7/1/16-6/30/17 is inking 72.

A one-year deal means he's still a RFA next year, right?

That's why I understand why Stan doesn't want the additional salary committed to the 17/18 season - that's when a new deal for Panarin would kick in.

While I don't agree with the "fleecing" comment (only time will tell), I like what this guy says about the impact of the salary cap and drive for parity. (Not that people on this board haven't been saying the same things for some time.)

I tweeted this back-
@THNKenCampbell One day, the NHL will realize parity & popularity aren't synonymous. Seems the opposite formula has worked in other sports.

win-win trade here..makes sense for both sides.

Canes are doing a great job with their rebuild and the Hawks get much needed cap relief and adding a couple of picks helps ease the loss of TT

Rockford signed today goalie Jake Hildebrand from Michigan State Univ. to one year deal. So there is Carruth, Hildebrand, McIntyre, Johansson and who else fighting for a job?

That plus I bet GMs are assuming stagnant cap for the next few years.

I'd be ok with that. Schlemko had a solid year in NJ and would be a decent #5/6. Vesey... He's got the size and speed but seems hellbent on the Bruins.

I bet Martin Lundberg gets a good look, and Baun, and half of Rockford, but unless there is an established pro who wants to take a Brad Richards deal, there isn't gonna be some big name addition.
Speed speed on the wings and whatever mix of physicality they can get from guys that can keep up.

That is what the template is for hawks and and then the Pens...

TT will only approach 60 points if he's skating with finishers...

It will be interesting to see who he lines up with next season.

I mentioned this in the last thread, but one angle to look at is what does TT return if he gets offer sheeted next season, and the Hawks don't match? Is it a second rounder, or is it a first and a third? From this perspective, added in with the $4 mill cap hit leaving, it's a win. No remaining buyout costs, no salary retention, just a clean shedding of salary. And no losing TT for nothing next year in the expansion draft. If the front office didn't believe they were going to keep him, this trade becomes more imperative.

JJ, you stated opposition to the trade in the previous thread. What do you think fair value is for him? I always mentioned that I'd like to see him traded for a similar story that might be a better fit here. I suppose Drouin might have been that guy, if we could believe he wasn't going to be a cancer here. That ship seems to have sailed, though.

Agreed. Take a look at the crop of UFA LW.....yuk. Only Lucic stands out with more than one dimension to his game, and he wants to get paid.

One is going to be a lot cheaper than the other. Didn't it come out that Ladd rejectected 6yr/36mil from Winnepeg?

Don't forget that the Hawks have $2,575,000 in Breadman bonuses that are going to crunch the cap even further this yer.

Thanks, good article and spot on.

So now Bickell and Teravainen join the likes of Brandon Saad, Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Sharp, Johnny Oduya and Nick Leddy – and that’s not even all of them – as Blackhawks cap casualties. Since first winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, the Blackhawks have dealt away more quality NHL players than some organizations have on their rosters.

RFA compensation is determined by the offer sheet. Check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/.../Offer_sheet#Compensation

Even if he falls into that 1st/3rd round category, I still think we got a better return with 4mil salary cap relief (TT + Bickell cap hit)/2nd/3rd.

Ladd's last deal was 5 years 22 million.
He's 30

No one is going 6 years 36 million

I would say Shaw is 3 million and Ladd 2 years / 4 per
Question
Is he worth the extra million.

Shaw has more junp more snarl and is never lackadaisical...as long as we are critiquing the making of CAP room and how it was used...
well Ladd didn't make enough impact physically and he simply isn't a quick guy that is needed with Toews line, if Hossa is on the other side.

Just think how 5' 8" Conor Sheary and 5' 11" Carl Hagelin's feet impacted the penquins attack...

Yes. He beat out Shaw for hits in the playoffs and is way better offensively.
