Yeah, what happened with Kekalainen?
They may have the worst cap situation in the Eastern Conference. - johndewar
There is a lot that contributed to it I think
ownership
injuries
timing of contracts |

So you're 100% positive that Streit's issues last season were due to decline, rather than injury. Is it possible that Streit could return to form, and due to being in the last year of his contract, would be a more valuable trade chip and have more team's interested due to his contract situation.
Since you're so sure of what his value is, what could they have gotten for him prior to last year, and what could they get for him now, since it is so obvious. Give some specifics. - MJL

I don't remember where, but there was something about the expansion team not being able to trade the player back to the team they drafted him from during the first season.
Edit: Found it
http://thehockeywriters.c...draft-rules-gain-clarity/
That last batch of rules is partly about keep the drafting teams honest, to avoid the weird shenanigans that can occur around an expansion draft, where the expanding team comes to a deal with another club to select a particular player (someone with an expiring contract or a retiring player, for example) in exchange for something else.
Toward that end, the expansion team will be allowed to trade any player selected, but players selected in the expansion draft cannot be traded to their previous team until January 1. They will also be prohibited from buying out any players selected until after the 2017-18 season.. - jmatchett383
i couldve saved you some time there, buddy
yeah that complicates things but doesnt make it impossible by any means

He sounded quite sure that I was wrong, so how hypothetical is it? I'll await his reply. Doubt he'll step to the plate.

Don't you mean iCould've?
Not impossible, but there'd have to be a 3rd team involved, or more of a "If you take this player instead of that player, we'll make it worth your while," kind of thing. |

He's not going to propose hypothetical deals in here, we deal only with facts. This is the truth of the system in all truthfulness. That's a fact. |

yeah that...i am really just saying they could go off the board and pick who they think is simply the most "valuable" player with no intention of actually ever letting him put on a jersey for the Las Vegas [insert team name]
The purpose will solely be to create trades for players that needed to be protected or multiple players from one team |

Yeah that is one option for sure.
I was thinking something more along the lines of using younger unprotected players with potential to get older veterans that were originally protected and/or had to be protected due to NMC...like Hartnell or something like that. He is a perfect guy to be picked for a new expansion team, but cant be.
The more that comes out the more it is becoming obvious that some younger, cheaper guys will be picked...just have to hope its not ours! If the rumors are true, the new team will not have to reach the cap floor completely (depending on what its set at this year) and they will take 3 goalies so it would make sense for one of them to be a longer term solution - YuenglingJagr
The rule I read says they have to draft between 60-100% of the cap in the expansion draft and can only take one player from each established team. I'm sure a lot of teams would love to have a guy currently under a NMC grabbed and off their cap.
I'm also sure we'll see some deals like the one I mentioned about MacDonald. |

Firing Richards early in the year when injuries and poor goaltending contributed heavily to the team's slide and hiring Torts was questionable.
They're loaded with no move & no trade clauses, bad contracts and questionable direction |

With you on that one. Carolina is moving in the right direction. Also, if the Devils can find some scoring to go with their developing D group and Schneider, they could quickly move up the in the standings too. - BiggE

People complain about Mase, and yet he makes $3.325m less than Bob and has also been healthier. |

If they're worried about having to protect players, let's give them AMac for Hartnell, caveat being Hartnell terminating his NMC. |

Because the NHL seems determined to prevent any and all sort of out and out chicanery. |

They weren't, but looking at the guys who have them: Dubinsky, Foligno, Hartnell, Clarkson, Tyutin.
There's nothing close to a franchise guy or top notch player in the bunch-plus they all have very significant cap hits-and a few can be argued as being overpaid |
