Should have traded him prior to last year as many on here wanted. The Star Wars buff was adamant that he could get the same now as then, it is obvious he was WRONG.

I could see an expansion team picking a guy from a team and then trading him back to said team for a player with a NMC or for assets...there will be ways to beat the sytem for a price
- YuenglingJagr

Actually, they have explicitly outlawed that practice. There'd have to be a third team involved.

They probably had the chance at the TDL, but figured the team deserved it's best chance at the playoffs.

Toward that end, the expansion team will be allowed to trade any player selected, but players selected in the expansion draft cannot be traded to their previous team until January 1.

This is all ive ever seen

Could see a guy or two, maybe, as deadline deals. I think more likely is a handshake deal to take or not take a certain player, where there's a later deal of a draft pick for prospect or whatever.

Like say the Flyers tell Vegas to select MacDonald, and they'll promise to trade a 2nd rounder for a player to be named after the draft, like a mid level or worse prospect. Or hey, don't take Raffl and we'll trade you Hagg for a 3rd rounder or something like that.

Funny thing about the Flyers division, I was all worried about Columbus becoming a good team after hiring Kekalainen and making a few smart moves...really it looks like Carolina might be the scary team in the future.

Yeah that is one option for sure.

I was thinking something more along the lines of using younger unprotected players with potential to get older veterans that were originally protected and/or had to be protected due to NMC...like Hartnell or something like that. He is a perfect guy to be picked for a new expansion team, but cant be.

The more that comes out the more it is becoming obvious that some younger, cheaper guys will be picked...just have to hope its not ours! If the rumors are true, the new team will not have to reach the cap floor completely (depending on what its set at this year) and they will take 3 goalies so it would make sense for one of them to be a longer term solution

So you're 100% positive that Streit's issues last season were due to decline, rather than injury. Is it possible that Streit could return to form, and due to being in the last year of his contract, would be a more valuable trade chip and have more team's interested due to his contract situation.

Since you're so sure of what his value is, what could they have gotten for him prior to last year, and what could they get for him now, since it is so obvious. Give some specifics.

They certainly arent making the big splash and I wonder about their offensive ceiling...but they play as a team and have a lot of great pieces in place. Columbus just decided to start paying everyone all kinds of money, but I think they still have the basis for a very good team in the near future

I will say this though...I think TT is overrated. Good, yes...Skilled, yes...but he would be an unknown on most teams in the NHL and gained a lot of fame from being on the blackhawks, scoring a goal in the playoffs, and being the subject of trade rumors for a while

Yeah, what happened with Kekalainen?

They may have the worst cap situation in the Eastern Conference.

With you on that one. Carolina is moving in the right direction. Also, if the Devils can find some scoring to go with their developing D group and Schneider, they could quickly move up the in the standings too.

I don't remember where, but there was something about the expansion team not being able to trade the player back to the team they drafted him from during the first season.

Edit: Found it
http://thehockeywriters.c...draft-rules-gain-clarity/

That last batch of rules is partly about keep the drafting teams honest, to avoid the weird shenanigans that can occur around an expansion draft, where the expanding team comes to a deal with another club to select a particular player (someone with an expiring contract or a retiring player, for example) in exchange for something else.

Toward that end, the expansion team will be allowed to trade any player selected, but players selected in the expansion draft cannot be traded to their previous team until January 1. They will also be prohibited from buying out any players selected until after the 2017-18 season..
