I understand that part.

But I could wait until the TDL and make sure Murray is the one.

I do think Fleury is moved this offseason to avoid having him be a backup and trying to get the most value. Also you could see Tampa try to move Bishop.

- J35Bacher

Pittsburgh also has some significant cap issues. They may not have the luxury of waiting for the TDL.

At this point its all about cap $$ for pgh, yes they won the cup but on paper this team is no where near as good as they played (no offence, but philly came within 2 wins of the cup in 10 with an ahl goalie). They will need to make some upgrades on d which will cost them, and they desperately need to not have 5.5 mill tied up in their new backup goalie.
- flyers4487

honestly, i'm much less worried moving forward now than i've been in years past.

the issue is losing murray in the expansion draft. the cap isnt a crippling issue. sure more space would help, and i'd like either another winger or a guy for defensive depth, but there really arent guys out there right now to spend it on anyway.

moving fleury for the cap would definitely be nice. but its not as if they need to start pawning people off

It could, but you could pretend to shop both. Drop hints that you're willing to listen to offers to either guy and work out the best deal possible.

Still better to trade MAF for less than full value than lose him for nothing

- Jsaquella

It all depends on MAF agreeing to wave his no move clause so you dont have to protect him in the draft. If he does that then his value goes up quite a bit because then one of 2 things happen.

1) MAF gets snagged by vegas and hes off your books.

2) his value goes up and pgh most likely won't have to adsorb some of his contract to move him for an pick of real value (like a early 2nd rounder, or maybe even a first)

I think Pittsburgh moves Fluery at the draft. Calgary really needs goaltending and possibly Dallas could make a move if they can move Neimi or Lehtonen.

Would the Islanders make a play for Fluery? Don't see many interdivision trades like that.

i think fleury being moved for a pick or two is extremely likely. once that happens, i really don't see the cap situation as that bad at all.

if anything, they'll have a few million and no one worth it on the FA market to spend it on.

I know.

I said I think he is moved sooner rather then later. Try to get ahead of other teams like Tampa or maybe Dallas that might try to move a goalie.

Well of course not, the pens just won the cup lol. No matter what happenes, going for it was worth it. Had then been bounced in the 2nd or 3rd round this season, it would be a much different story.

if dallas can move either of those mammoth dump deals, fleury will be just fine.

Not with guys like Rust and Sheary and Kuhnakhl playing on low deals.

exactly. rust and kuhn already reupped for 2 more years. sheary wont have a ton of leverage to get more.

i think having 2 of them in the top 6 might be difficult long term. but good cheap bottom 6 help.

I think if Chicago still felt TT was a great prospect they would have found another way to move Bickell, even if it came to a buyout.
- Feanor

Agreed...I think it was obvious he wasnt going to fit as a 3rd center in the west for them. He looks like he should be in the east

Yeah.

Not sure what they plan to do.

Better goaltending and I thought that team would have been a cup team.

Worked for the 80s Oilers.

I'm sorry, but Grant Fuhr is an extremely overrated goalie.

Yeah but the Pens were able to really run 3 lines without missing a beat and the 4th line did their job.

When needed they could always shorten things up and load up the top 6 but they were clicking and really didn't need to shake things up.
