What about targeting the Caps' G prospect Ilya Samsonov? He's a big kid with lots of upside and could fit the Leafs timeline quite nicely.

With Holtby being their man for years to come, I could see the Caps open to discussing a deal.

I think WSH wont move him.. Holtby may be their guy now, but that could change in the future. It's always good to have a good goalie prospect waiting in the wings as you often see them steal the job one year..

Thing is you have to give to get. If we go the stop gap route, I am fine with that too until we develop a goalie and we keep Willy and see how he pans out. He could be a gem, but he is not a sure thing like Matthews.

Matthews will be leaps and bounds better than Nylander IMO. He will be a franchise C. Willy as a franchise player? Jury is out.
