wasnt listing it as an accomplishment or using it as a badge of honor. a pens fan is, as usual, under-valuing coots. it was a refresher, since he apparently thinks there are 700 players in the nhl last year that are better than coots.

Not sure where you got that number from...

This is just a rumor and will not happen. Hexy may take him for a draft pick and/or low level prospect. Hexy has said he will not trade young talent especially for that bust Yakupov!

I think the purpose of my post went completely over your head. I was supporting your argument that he is arguably better than 80% of the players in the league...

And as far as Malkin, Ive heard that so many times its like a bedtime story for me. But good to see you and EK agree. Are you his source?

- DeflatedPucks

I think you're right! I wouldn't trade 80% of skaters for Couterier

the way in which you said it means you wouldnt trade 80% of the league for coots. which means out of your 890 whatever skaters who played one game, 80% is 712, you wouldnt trade them for coots. am i missing something here? if you want to agree with my post you'd say i wouldnt trade couturier for 80% of skaters.

do you need a 3rd grade refresher on simple sentence construction?

I wouldn't trade 80% of the league for him, so reasonably speaking I might trade the other 20% which would be about 179 players. But its probably close to 10-15%.

Sanheim isnt enough...he was 18th overall and Yakupov was 1st overall...so the Flyers would need to include at least another 1st and maybe Coots
- YuenglingJagr

That is a severe overpayment IMHO. I wouldn't do that for Coots straight up! Not sure what you are thinking with a trade offer like that

IF this rumor is even true, the only reason why Chia would be interested in trying to acquire Sanheim is another LHD will be packaged with regards to a trade to another team without losing depth in that position.

Look at it this way, Edmonton has Reinhart, Nurse, Klefbom, Davidson, Sekera, Oesterle, Laleggia, and Jones all on that left side with Klefbom, Sekera, and Davidson as the forerunners for the 3 spots on the left. That means Nurse (for now), Reinhart, Oesterle, Laleggia, and possibly Jones are all battling for a chance to crack the roster. Adding in ANOTHER LHD only makes things more complex and out of proportions.

If Chia does trade for Sanheim, then LaLeggia, Oesterle, Davidson, Jones or/AND (notice the AND in caps) possibly Reinhart will be involved in a deal concerning the #4th overall draft pick (which I think Edmonton WILL use due to expansion reasons) or a player package deal (Most likely). Don't forget that Edmonton is competing with other teams when it comes to trying to acquire a top #2 or even a top #4 RHD. By getting some wiggling room, Edmonton can make a bigger offer by offering expendable assets in regards to obtaining what they want.

In the end, Edmonton would actually bolster their defensive prospective depth if this were to happen and it would provide additional assets within Chia's arsenal if he were to make a trade for a Top #2 or Top #4.

I probably should have thrown in a couple of graphs and fancy bar charts along with my political leanings to reinforce my conviction

exactly, if EDM wants to realize their mistake, which they wont since they're EDM, and trade us Yak for a 3rd and maybe another lower level prospect on LHV, fine. But for any of our top prospects, just move on. no need to add a guy who will bolt for the KHL in a year or two anyway

look, i'm a flyers fan and i love coots but we gotta let this one go...yes he shut down malkin in the playoffs. once. a long time ago. we haven't really accomplished much since so constantly bringing this up like a badge of honor for coots is getting kind of embarrassing.

I dont think Chiarelli will have any qualms about moving Yakupov. He didnt make that pick so he isnt attached to it.

I know he's a 1st overall but Russian players of late have taken longer to breakout in the NHL. Kucherov was 21, Tarasenko was 22, Kuznetsov at 23. Even Nichuskin (21) hasn't had a really good season yet. I'd give Yak one more year playing top 6 minutes before I call him a bust. His point totals haven't been terrible for a bottom 6 player.
