I dont care with the number of teams they have now. If they wanted to say scrap Phoenix or Florida sure.

Just fix the fact that the West has 16 teams and East 14. Its moronic how they let that slide and cry for parity.

The west plays better, harder, faster hockey so it wouldn't be fair to make it more difficult to make the playoffs out there.

I wonder how Vegas will fair as a FA destination? Would it be attractive to live there? You might be able to get a nice endorsement deal with a casino or hotel. Vegas interest me in what it could offer players outside of hockey there.

Staal's contract isn't bad (hard to call it good either)...it's just an absurd deal. 10 years $60 mil. The AAV isn't even awful. And his contract ends at the same age as someone like G. I just think they thought he would be a 60+ point player more than the 45-50 point player he is. He was coming off a career year.

He's a hell of a player though.

the length, taken on its face, its absolutely absurd. but he was extremely young when he got it.

i agree that both the pens when offering and the canes when basically giving him the same deal each envisioned that 60 point jump. like i said, hes definitely overpaid by at least a mil. but he has such a positive impact on the game. when he was with the pens, he may have been a nominal third line center, but he would routinely rack up as much or if not more icetime than 87 and 71. having him also enabled both of those guys free to be largely one way players.

would i want him back at that rate with how things are? probably no. but i can think of a hell of a lot more dead weight deals out there than a guy who is a very quality asset who is being paid about a mil too much in my opinion.
