I dont think thats that bad. The bottom 6 are what is holding this team back now.
I know the #1 dman is the most important...but on paper that defense isnt much worse than Pittsburghs
It is the sum of all their parts that matter - YuenglingJagr
I don't think Streit/MacDonald is here to start the season. I see one of Streit or MacDonald moved before the season starts. That's just my feeling. They will retain some money but move one of these guys so they can open a spot for one of their young players to step in, possibly Provorov.
Also Hagg is still only 21. I think he starts in the A unless he has a dominate camp and then maybe comes up midway or after and injury like Gostisbehere did.

Wow, that D is weak. Not much to be done about it but certainly the Achilles Heal of the team. I know we said it last year and they surprised but seriously, can a blind squirrel find another nut? Obviously in a few years it looks great with develpment but right now..... - coffee junkie
See, I dont think it is terrible.
MDZ and Ghost are both legitamate top 4 d-men albeit with different skill sets. MDZ is truly a 2 way d-man. His game has cleaned up significantly, and he plays all situations. He is still only 25. Ghost is a top end offensive d-man.
Gudas is funny. He can have really strong games, and then games where he is a total scatter brain. All in all, I ended up really appreciating his game by the end of the year.
Schultz is what he is. He is a solid 6th d-man who plays a pretty decent defensive game. Outside of that, he isnt anything special.
Manning (IMO) is just okay. I think he could stick as a 6th/7th d-man.
Streit is one year removed from finishing with 50 points. Hell this year he had 23 points despite playing in 62 games and clearly unhealthy. He also lost his spot on the PP which definitely hurt his point production. I think he will likely return to something close to form.. but likely not where he was before the injury. That being said, he should still be a decent top 4 #2 PP guy.
Provorov is a wild card. I remember Button saying back around the last few weeks of the season that he thought he could have an Ekblom like rookie year. That would be a hell of boost.
So yes, we are not the Hawks, Preds, or Kings... but it could be worse. |

I think AMac or Manning could be the odd man out if one of the prospects steps up. AMac's cap hit is sunk cost either here or at Lehigh Valley (I understand $900,000 savings against the cap if demoted).
I believe Schultz is the perfect 7th man dman going forward. I don't think he can move Streit until closer to the deadline. If things go well, he'll be an overpaid 3rd pairing dman for one year, and I could live with this scenario because it means one or two of the prospects stepped up.

I have a guy on my mens league team who scored 4 goals last game.
Prior to the game someone told him he looked like Phil Kessel.
During the game I told him that, "Like Phil Kessel, your hands are as soft as your midsection".
Moral of the story: Tell Phil (my teammates name) that he looks like Phil Kessel before every game. Win championship. |

Have you tried calling him other names? If so it could just be a coincidence |

I'd love to see Rico be a coach in the system but I know he likes the time he has with his family so it might be a little tough to get him to sign on the dotted line now but maybe in a few years. Rico (or Kimmo) would be the perfect person to take Ghost aside and help develop the D zone side of his game.
My top 4 Flyers D of all time definintely are: Howe, Rico, Kimmo, and Pronger. I hope Provorov falls in there somewhere in a few years. |

Would Hexy send a 2nd and 3rd for a low-level prospect if the team also took AMac? Would any team consider that?
As long as they're as patient with Hagg as they were with Manning, I'm good. |

He and Timonen are 2A and 2B for me. Different players, but both were under-appreciated league wide and were, as Bill noted, perennial All-Stars who played well in all 3 zones, had great puck skills, great positioning, and great "hockey IQ." - jmatchett383

I'm not sure I'm in favor of moving back. Not enough teams with good pick combos. Toronto with 30 & 31 and Tampa with 27 & two later 2nds. That's it. |
