Leafs might try and sign an RFA (Schwartz) or UFA to replace him after trading him for help on D.
- MaximusAurelius

I'd stay clear of the RFA and target Eriksson. I think he'd be a great fit for the Leafs.

Meh.
As long as we get a good return and he wasnt run out of town. Why would people care?

- Fakepartofme

Because they are Leafs fans on Hockeybuzz. I don't know why people care about any ex player to be honest.

i can see a someone like nylander being moved up to play the wing on a line with JVR and Kadri

(i am basing this on the fact that the leafs do not have stamkos at this point of course)

matthews penciled in as 2C but given wingers with some experience (like komarov)

marner... i can see him playing more sheltered minutes on a 3rd line with someone like bozak, because if marner's play making ability translates to the NHL it will inflate Bozak's stats (as a 3rd line they will face more secondary defenses) which would allow the leafs to move him more easily

To clarify; I'd think Leafs would try and trade for a guy like Schwartz (as opposed to offer sheet). Think St Louis has some cap troubles (decision between Schwartz and Backes? and not sure they prefer to let Backes go).

I say keep Kadri, but at the same time it's difficult because then you have to account for what comes back the other way. If the Leafs were able to package Kadri + for a top pairing defensman, I'd say keep Bozak and trade Kadri to address that need.
- RickJames77

there is no top pairing D the leafs can get for Kadri

oh and trade Bozak anyways...doesnt matter if Kadri is there or not

That wouldn't help.

Out of the 4 top 6 winger slots they have 1... And he is in the early stages of his prime years and has developed into the leafs most effective net presence

JVR is not getting moved. he is the only non rookie top 6 winger the leafs have
- Dozzer

Not this year, but if we aren't even close to sniffing a playoff spot in his contract year, I say move him for a big haul or for that #2 dman we so desperately need.

AHHHH, I thought you were talking offer sheet...that would be great if they could pull that off. I'm just not certain I'd address wing depth before attaining some more help on the back end.

He hasnt worked on the wing yet....not to say he cant.
So far he's been better at center.

- Fakepartofme

Remember how horrid he was on the wing when Wilson was coaching?

I agree, but it doesn't mean you can't add around Kadri to land a #2 that maybe is borderline #1. (I really don't want to get into hypothetical trades, just saying)

I think its ok to still like a player and hope he does well if the leafs trade him.

i smile when people post their projected lineups and line one is JVR Matthews and Marner

there is 0 chance Babcock builds his top line using two 19 year old rookies

maybe in a year or two sure... but not this season

- Dozzer

To be quite honest, I don't think Marner will be on the team in October.

I really do not understand why people want him moved

The leafs greatest asset depth is their prospect pool.

If a team is willing to move a young top pairing d man it will be due to cap concerns. So that team will be most likely looking for picks/prospects.

And JVR will likely be getting a lot more $ on his next contract

I do, at least for the 9 game tryout. He's earned that at the very least by dominating the O.

At this point. No, I agree.

However if he gets strong enough over the off season that could change things.

My guess is he will at least get his 9 game tryout

He has what? 2 -3 years left on the contract?

It was a combination of both.

Wilson should have at least tried him at C. However at the time kadri did have a lot of defensive shortcomings
