If I were Tampa, I would throw in a couple of prospects and a pick or two to get rid of Callahan and Carle's contracts. The cost may be high but losing your captain and premiere player for nothing seems absurd to me. Stammer is worth a first and then some. Asset management. |

Carlyle back to the ducks...is this real life?
Ducks have a much better team than the leafs so he may not have as dramatic an effect, or if he manages to change up is style..still, its a bad direction they went imo.
Wonder is Nonis had anything to do with it.

So trade Bozak for 5th rounder or trade Kadri for a solid D man
Hmmm, 1 helps us 1 doesn't.
Stammer
Matthews
Nylander
That's why he's talking about moving Kadri
I Like Kadri but if he's going to be used sparingly then why would we keep him?

But, I think this indicates just how tough it is going to be for Tampa going forward. They have some great young players and several options can probably work. Let's say they offer Callahan and Drouin to Buffalo for the 7th pick. They make the salary cap problem go away for at least a year, they are able to sign Stamkos. But, the problem just gets moved to next year where they will need to pay Hedman.

Kari is the one guy that I would be nervous about trading. If he matches some maturity with his skill set, he can be a very good asset. Why deal him now when his his market value would be lower than fair. |

Shanahan: if those big peices come available and we think they can help it won't stop us from trying to sign them.

Not next year i don't think either - but if Matthews is the real deal and Kadri can bring back a good return - you have to think they may go for it - unless they think Nylanders a bust I guess. |

I never said trade him for lower than fair - you trade him for the right piece ( if they even trade him )
The point was I can see people thinking he could be traded when we are drafting and signing better C's |

"Today @ 2:37 AM ET
I think that they attempt to trade for his rights. I know the whole "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free" thing. I feel that Stamkos is on his way out for a variety of reasons. He is their captain & he accomplished a lot in TB tho. I think that it's a classy move for both organizations to try to work out some sort of reasonable deal for his rights. Especially if everyone is sure that a contract with the Leafs is inevitable. It will take the heat off of Stamkos a bit too. He'll look less like he abandoned the Lightning fans & team if a trade is worked out as opposed to him just walking as a free agent."
What all star captain would ever do that to their team? ?? Cough (Mats)

Well if he has to be #4 c? I don't see it but possible.
Maybe he moves to wing and plays C when injuries happen?
Just looking at options
D and G's also help win cups
You're not related to "the dream" are you?

I dunno about Nylander in the middle. That was before the lottery. I think he becomes a career winger starting 2016 unless he doesn't make the Leafs out of camp. |

Keeping Stamkos is going to be very hard for Tampa. It means having to move at least one big salary this year (Callahan or Carle) and moving another big salary next summer in order to provide contract space for Hedman. In addition, they have some really good players also looking for contracts this year.
The easiest solution for Tampa is simply to let Stamkos go. The best solution may be to deal him for the best return under the circumstances.
Florida has dumped enough salary to suggest they may have the inside position on Stamkos. They have moved Gudbranson to Vancouver and Savard (LTIR). Intrigued by the rumour that Florida will offer up Huberdeau for rights to negotiate with Stamkos. If Florida gets the negotiation rights they know they can sign him. Nobody should discount the financial impact of being able to offer a contract that us free from state income tax. - spatso

You move Kadri to the wing. Players will go down with injuries. That's why we got Holland for a 2nd rnd pick. |
