Agreed - it is totally unbelievable - and shows a lack of hockey knowledge. What is important to note is that Stamkos is by a wide margin the best free agent center available EVER since free agency began in 1995 - in the early days we were discussing 32-40 year old free agents. Here is a 26 year old top shelf center - available for fair market value - Every team that has the cap space should be interested - Big time. - winsix

He's been on a steady decline since winning the cup: I think he missed the playoffs 8 out of 9 years coaching quality Ducks teams.
He's really not a good coach; Burke and Carlyle could've been replaced with Mike Milbury and Dallas Eakins and still won the cup with that stacked team in '07. - gravyface
Really?
Maybe try some facts.
2007/08 -47 -27 - 8 playoffs
2008/09 – 42- 33 – 7 playoffs
2009/10 – 39 – 32 – 11 no playoffs – first time in his tenure
2010/11 – 47 – 30 – 5 playoffs
2011/12 fired 7- 13 - 4
I think he missed the playoffs once with the ducks.
So you're saying that coaching had nothing to do with them winning the cup...but it had everything to do with not winning another....or losing?
Ah I see.
sure.

That shows smart cap management and that they like him.
But to say they all love him...is a bit much.
They like his play publicly. |

Sorry, it was first round losses 8 of 9 years.
I see you're upset, so carry on with your RC love affair, but maybe in private ok? 99.999% of us on here don't recall RC's tenure in Toronto so fondly.

He's a pretty good diver... draws a lot of penalty's, you should give it a try and learn to like that part of his game. |

Ya big difference.
No love affair bud, I was never a fan his or his hiring. But the bs leafs fans shoot his way is not always warranted.
Besides, he took a crappy leaf team to the playoffs.....where the players choked...not him. |

To be fair, there is anecdotal evidence that the shot differential thing was at least partly "intentional" or at least a known by-product of the system.
Carlyle seemed to try to coach a counter-attack style rather than a possession style. He is on record talking about his goalies being expected to stop a lot of shots from the outside.
He did have some success with a pretty bad roster and there was a LARGE sample size where the Leafs results whether they were on the good or bad side of Corsi were running counter to the Advanced Stats.
I didn't like the style the Leafs were playing but this a case where Corsi may be an effect and not necessarily the cause of the Leafs problems. The cause of the Leafs problems in this case could also very well be due to a horrible culture and attitude. When your best player doesn't appear to have any work ethic, eventually the whole thing is going to go south. (and I am big Kessel fan )
Put Kessel on a team where there is already multiple established leaders and his work ethic isntt going to drag down the whole team. Kessel wasn't the only guilty party here. JVR also pulled a complete no-show during the collapse. - Aetherial
ok so you think he is a good coach?
i think he is bottom 2 or 3 in the NHL... we can move on

Also, MIB, Kadri isn't going anywhere. |
