Like what? in terms of salary or acquisition? Goalie market prices are going to be deeply discounted with expansion looming. A second, a goalie and prospect should do it. He's RFA - don't know what he get in arbitration but I think 3 years at $4.5 would be a good starting point. - winsix
Trade price.
Doesn’t have a NTC.
And you can negotiate his next contract with him. A lot of value in that.
Will be one of the more expensive goalies to acquire imo.

But if the team is 3-4 years away from really competing, does it really matter if he crumbles in the playoffs?
Getting 35 wins per season seems like it would really help instill a winning culture with the club.
Either you think the team is ready to compete as early as next season, in which Fleury makes no sense as the guy to take them to the cup, or you think they are a few years away and he will be gone by the time it matters - WingmanWillie
If they sign Stamkos I think they will be ready to compete, there's a reason they stock piled all those draft picks. |

Murray I think may not be anything super special too.. ATM Jones is clearly better.
If Pitt knows this they'd trade him to a team looking for a goalie.. I'd be asking the Leafs for Brown/Carrick and a 2nd..
Also if they can move Malkin and get a decent return they'll do it. - Arctic_AARDVARK
But I think the pens learned the lesson that even if they get just above average goaltending, they'll be just fine. As long as there isn't a beachball/Fleury meltdown
Arguably, all of the teams they faced employed goalies who played out of their minds better: Holtby, Bishop/Vasilevsky, Jones (exception: Lundy) |

I haven't been keeping up, couldn't remember if he had gone through or is still just preliminary talk... - bryant

Las Vegas confirmed for expansion, as per an anonymous league exec. - Phenom
Any plans for Leafs to trade for a 1G for '16/'17 must go ON HOLD! |

The big if - is Stamkos, if he signs with the Leafs, I would expect a significant improvement. The 27 point improvement by the Sabers in 2016 would not be out of the question (27 points) - bringing Leafs to 96 points - that's a wildcard spot. Speculation of course - but I don't buy that they are 5 years out of contention adding three top flight talents at once to a team whose farm team (except goalies) was great.

Reimer was the best player last year, definitely a better goalie in a Babcock system than a Carlyle system. - the_eye
Ok well player as in not a goalie.. Kadri showed good growth and responsibility.
It's just so stupid to turn your back on a guy that they drafted, for the first time in a long time who's going to have a good NHL career. He's done everything right and ShanaLouCock love him. Keep the guys you draft, especially if they accept a very reasonable deal!
We know what Reimer is all about, the Leafs needed to move on form him. |

Doubt very much Lou and Shanny trades for Varlamov - they will have a problem with the domestic assault charge. Lou doesn't even like or tolerate facial hair - would not expect him to trade for a goalie with that type of issue in his past.
JVR has more value to NJ (not much scoring) and he is from there. How about Larsson and Blackwood for JVR and Dermott. Doubt any team has any interest in Bernier - he might be going Robidas Island. - winsix
You could be right about Varly, but i'm sure if they did trade for him they would do their research and make sure he's gotten over his issues.
Larsson and Blackwood would be nice, but it still doesn't solve the Leafs goaltending issues this season. I'd probably also want Jersey's 11th overall pick if we're giving up JVR. Probably add in one of our 2nd's to even it out. |

I agree. I happen to think they will be competitive much sooner as well
In that case, Fleury may not make sense.
But most think they are still years away, so if that's the case, MAF makes perfect sense |

I say keep kadri and jvr they are both young enough to be part of this rebuild. Both on great contracts. Everyone's so enamored now with first round picks, and picks and more picks. Jvr and kadri are former top 10 picks themselves. They can be the veteran presence once this team is ready to compete. |

Yup..
Crazy that Pitt could play such a sound defensive game with Maata, Dumoulin, Schultz, Cole.... Albiet the two young guys played well. But I thought Daley going down was going to ruin them.. That's why Sid won the Conn Smyth, he was a selfless leader. |

Going from Boudreau to Carlyle could cost the Ducks 7.6 points in the standings, based on my coaching metric.
Is that bad? |
