Vegas win expansion!
Buy Flower - nh4442
it is not confirmed yet. but it seems that way according to rumors. |

Wy are we throwing a second round pick in there and take back a salary dump of Calgary's in Wideman? Have no use for that. Bad idea from a Pittsburgh standpoint. - Oneonta Penguin
Its not a very realistic trade proposal. But its about what I think we would have to offer to get someone to bite. Fleury at best is worth something like the 25th pick in the draft. Pouliot has fallen in value. Lets say at best pouliot is worth the 25th pick. In order to get the 6th pick we would be offering basically 2 1st and a salary dump.
Sprong's about the only thing we would have to sweeten the 6th pick to turn into the #3 pick.
If this could actually be pulled off I'd probably do it. But it depends on your scouting and whether you think the guy getting picked at #3 can be a franchise player. |

Nonsense. Fleury is a HOF goalie and Pouliot is worth at least 10th overall. Let's send them to Toronto for first overall and Toronto's 1st next year.
Then, we'll qualify Schultz at $4.3M so that someone offer sheets him.
Kunitz was an Olympian, he can probably get another late 1st. |

Looks like it might be official now? http://espn.go.com/nhl/st...gas-quebec-city-expansion
EDIT - and, of course, as I read the article, it sites that it's from an AP "Source" - chimpira
I believe June 22nd is when the announcement of expansion will be made. But it's been leaked for a while now that Las Vegas is done. |

They all just won a cup, their values are higher than that. |

Would you take a 3rd for Kunitz? - Thorny
Definitely. Wilson would be the replacement. |

Good point.
You know, just trade Fleury for the top 10. Each team gets the luxury of playing him once every 10 games. It's not quite fair value for the Pens, but they're banking on the future. |

I don't think it's worth it for the Pens to try and finagle their way into the top 6. Too many specific and hard to pull off moves required and if one doesn't work and we fall short we (frank) ourselves.
I mean look at what happened last year with the Bs when they tried to scam their way into a top 5 pick. They ended up losing Hamilton for pennies and got stuck with three consecutive picks they weren't prepared to use - Victoro311
I agree it is a very long shot and might not end up working out in the long run, but it still makes for interesting fodder. IMO, the B's traded Hamilton for the best value they could get as they knew he was getting offer sheeted.
Pens could improve through the draft in one of two ways.
1. Finding a way to get into the top 5 (preferably the #3) to get one of the guaranteed studs on the wing in Puljujavi, Tkachuk & Dubois. This will be very difficult/expensive but still possible.
2. Finding the right deal to get into the top 10 and trading Pouliot. If the Pens roll with Letang, Dumo, Maata, Daley, Cole & Schultz then he is expendable. I look at Colorado at #10 and think they would prefer a guy like Pouliot (plus something) who can hop in immediately and play for them, possibly being a long term solution to Barrie.
Pens would still be able to get one of Juolev, Chuchryn or Sergachyov at that spot and would be able to take a year or two to let them develop if necessary. Pouliot is a heavily depreciating asset if he doesnt get significant ice time with the Pens next season. |

Didn't reports come out hat GMs didn't know Hamilton was on the block until after he was traded? That trade was a real head scratcher. |

Maybe not on the block, but it was common knowledge they weren't close to an extension. |

Don't think they made a real effort to feel out offers (no disrespect Peter Chiarelli). Seemed so 'gut-punch' quick |

Within 5 or 6 years, the Vegas team will be in financial dire straits or even moved. Bet on it. Or not. - errey12

I think that was Sweeney that pulled the trigger. I remember when it happened thinking that another team was going to offer sheet him so they pulled the trigger on a slightly better deal to make sure that didnt happen.
It is really surprising that offer sheets don't happen more often. I guess the threat of getting blackballed and the old school respect mentality is still there. I wonder if that doesnt start to change with some of these teams moving to younger GM's taking the analytic approach.
I look at Mackinnon knowing the Avs are on a budget and take a chance with an offer sheet on him. Same thing next year with Ekblad. If there is a superstar available and you already have a solid core locked up, just go for it. |

I really don't see LV making it down the road too. The newness will wear off in four years and they will be in trouble.
The only thing saving a new expansion team right now is the expansion draft guidelines. They can get better talent with these rules than what Ottawa, TB, or another recent addition had. You won't see another Ottawa or Washington be so terrible out of the gate. |

Unless there is a bit of a collapse in the US economy Vegas will do pretty well. There is a decent sized population there and a lot of people will plan their trips to Vegas around their favorite teams games. Not to mention the hotels will snatch up tickets and boxes for their high rollers. They will do better than Carolina, Columbus, Florida and Phoenix for sure. With the small arena size and weak $CDN they might do as well as the Jets also. |

It comes down to how many gamblers will decide to bet a live game in person. For the kinds of people that vacation to Vegas, the novelty of being able to go to a game they can actually bet on may end up being more than a novelty. If that ends up being a big hit the NHL will never leave Vegas and the NFL and NBA will follow soon |
