Wait a few years ...they have a very good prospect pool and it's getting better ....and TO and Van are like brothers fighting ...always competing with each other ...constant competion between fans
- Redmile247

Ya ya....wait until it all comes together, the Islanders have been saying that for 20 something years, the Leafs for a decade, the Oilers for nearly a decade, the Sharks for 15 years, the Panthers for 20 years....need I go on?

I think Gulutzan is a good coach, he'll do well in Calgary. I hate the Flames, but man they've got the makings of a great young team
- LeftCoaster

I hope your right ...but until they get a goalie they will be in tough in the west ...flames fans say we have gillies but until any young goalie proves he is an nhler they are nothing more than a prospect ...markstrom is a great example, Florida thought he was their future 7-8 years ago

X 2

I'd put a $100 dollars down on the Flames finishing higher than the Canucks next year, with an NHL quality tender, they've just got a much better team....(frank) it hurts to admit that?

I get a different feel with TO ... The organization 4 years ago is much much different than they are today
The isles i can see your point....oilers are well the oilers ...I don't remember the Sharks every being a team who had loads of prospects, just a good team who couldn't get over the hump...and the panthers should never be used as a comparison to the leafs, they would draft develop than trade or lose players because they couldn't afford to keep them ...TO won't have that issue they will be a cap team when they need to be

I'll have to talk about the goalie coach situation tomorrow.

That press release came out just as I hit "publish" on today's blog, which talks about Gulutzan, where you want Travis Green to coach next year—and can the Canucks trade Alex Burrows to Anaheim?

Lets say the odds of that second round pick amounting to an NHL player is 15%, the odds of Hansen still being a Canuck after his cheap contract expires is 0%, the odds the Canucks contend for the cup with Hansen in the lineup is 0%, the odds Hansen plays top 6 minutes if a FA winger is signed is a generous 15%, and finally the odds Hansen replicates his scoring production without playing 57% of his season icetime with Henrik and Daniel is a generous 5%.

Getting something for someone that isnt going to be in your long term plans is good asset management. Not moving him, like say Hamhuis, Vrbata, Burrows, is bad asset management. It wasnt popular, but remember the haul from the Linden trade? It set the team up for future success. What about Lack, are we still upset about moving him? He wasn't in the plans and the team now has a D prospect and another draft pick this year. Its not the best haul but cant say Eddie would have made a difference this year or next

As for price being the highest at TDL: http://nesn.com/2016/03/b...-make-for-busy-nhl-draft/
It has been mentioned several times, teams are wanting cost certainty earlier in the year which makes the draft the new big trade day of the year. They acquire tweaking players that late in the year, only one 1st rounder went last year and it was a player with much higher pedigree than Hansen...

For the record I'm still upset about moving Lack

You are really reaching here...the odds of Hansen resigning with the Canucks is 0%? Good to know, I hope you have informed his wife and kids.
I'd argue that dumping a quality veteran for a 3rd round pick is extremely poor asset management. He is low cost productive member of the leadership group and still holds value even if he is playing on our 3rd line working with the kids. Also, some of the posters on here that are saying we should avoid signing a high priced UFA for 4-5 years are now advocating that we dump Hansen for a sh!t return and spend to the cap on a UFA winger. Is it (frank)ing Tuesday in the Middle East?

I dont think I am reaching, Hansen will be what 32 or 33? How was Burrow's second contract after he was extremely valuable? I know Hansen is good, and I am not advocating dumping him for a 3rd rounder, I hope he can get something more or be packaged for something to build with. If a 3rd is all thats available, then I wouldnt move him, but I would be aware that he wouldnt get anything more in the future and his contract likely wont be a good one beyond that if he resigns

I also am not advocating for Lucic, Brouwer, or Laad, all will be regretful contracts. I would take Ericksson for a 2-3 years which has the same probability of happening with or without Hansen

You would be right if this is the most we can get. But if we can get a pick in the top 45(plus a 3rd or 4th with it) then not trading him would be poor asset management.
