At one time I thought Bob Murray was a smart GM, now, I'm not so sure? WTF is he thinking by hiring Carlyle again!

Looks like Gulutzan may be the front runner for the Flames job.

Anyone run out of town by leafs fans invariably does great. just look at Kessel as an example.

Carlyle will comeback with a vengeance and probably win the western conf. next season.l

“I’ve had phone calls; I’ve had (other GMs) ask me if we’d move the pick,” Kekalainen said. “And I’ve already had a couple of really good offers. Aggressive offers. Fair offers. But nothing yet that’s made me really consider moving it.”

Kekalainen added that it would take a big offer to move the pick.

If they are looking for centers, they could be considering Logan Brown, Clayton Keller and maybe Pierre-Luc Dubois.

I'd rather just take PLD as soon as I'd take Puljarjvi...

although JB might be under pressure to improve fast in which case trade the 5OA plus 3rd round pick for the 3OA which yields an NHL ready player. CBJ can then go flip the 5OA for something else...

Carlyle is an NHL dinosaur, when the Ducks won they had two of the best dmen to ever play the game and one of its all-time best snipers. The game has passed him by.

But people can change I guess. At least I'm sure Bob Murray is hoping.

I wonder what the betting odds are that the Canucks don't become champs.

For all of Carlyle's warts, he got the Leafs into the playoffs and I believe he had them in a playoff position when he was canned. Something should be said about that, for a franchise that only made one appearance in a decade.

The odds of 2nd rounder amounting anything close to Hansen is slim to none.
That is POOR asset management. TDL is the best time unless a team offers a crazy deal this offseason. That is highly unlikely though. A mid 1st isn't reality now with the currency usually being a 2nd. That is not bigh value regardless of 22 goals or 15.

- Nighthawk

Lets say the odds of that second round pick amounting to an NHL player is 15%, the odds of Hansen still being a Canuck after his cheap contract expires is 0%, the odds the Canucks contend for the cup with Hansen in the lineup is 0%, the odds Hansen plays top 6 minutes if a FA winger is signed is a generous 15%, and finally the odds Hansen replicates his scoring production without playing 57% of his season icetime with Henrik and Daniel is a generous 5%.

Getting something for someone that isnt going to be in your long term plans is good asset management. Not moving him, like say Hamhuis, Vrbata, Burrows, is bad asset management. It wasnt popular, but remember the haul from the Linden trade? It set the team up for future success. What about Lack, are we still upset about moving him? He wasn't in the plans and the team now has a D prospect and another draft pick this year. Its not the best haul but cant say Eddie would have made a difference this year or next

As for price being the highest at TDL: http://nesn.com/2016/03/b...-make-for-busy-nhl-draft/
It has been mentioned several times, teams are wanting cost certainty earlier in the year which makes the draft the new big trade day of the year. They acquire tweaking players that late in the year, only one 1st rounder went last year and it was a player with much higher pedigree than Hansen...

Trade for Malkin:

To Nux
Malkin
Schultz

To Pens
Hansen
Tanev
CBJ 2nd (in either 2017/18 per CBJ choice)
Nux 2nd (in either 2017/18 per PIT choice)
Nux 5th (just for consistency)

PIT gets two solid regulars plus early round picks, Nux get a 1C for the next 7 years or so and a RFA dman that PIT likely won't be able to sign anyway.

Nux would have go out and sign a dman or make another move. I would suggest signing Hamhuis to a 3mill/yr deal for 3 years.

Dank-Hank-Etem
Burrows-Horvat-Eriksson

I don't think Carlyle is that bad of a coach he just had a terrible team in TO ...even good coaches can't make tire fires go out

Another 2nd round pick for Canucks.
Maybe Benning does know what he's doing trading all these 2nd rounders. He's got a fountain of 2nd round picks.

Plus he wasn't hired in year.

So it would have been a 3rd if it was still a rule.

Too bad. I was really looking forward to Benning trading that 2nd in a package for Emelin.

Its good business relations within the division. The question is who is our new assistant?
