Ice breaker: Dahlen, Bitten, Kuokkanen, Dube, Kyrou for 2nd round - Mononoke
I'd add Stransky and Gregor to that list as well. All these guys are smaller, but have great combinations of skill and speed. Kyrou seems pretty under rated to me, he can seem pretty threatening and explosive at times.
And Dahlen but there's no way he falls to 48. |

I'm kind of hoping Detroit gets occupied signing Stamkos. Would hope Hexy has interest in Darren Helm. For what the Flyers are looking for in a third line center, I like what Helm has to offer for the term and cap hit he will probably be getting in the open market. |

The wings have no cap space, how do you figure they can even bother considering Stamkos? |

Get somebody to trade for Datsyuk's hit is the only way |

Move Datsyuk's contract to start (Arizona). Possibly get creative and eat some salary to move Howard's contract. I think Franzen will still be on LTIR? no |

I think Dahlen is gone before the 2nd round, myself. - Jsaquella
He's my favorite of the bunch, and I think there's a good chance he goes 25-35. Two 2nds gives Flyers that chance to nab their favorite faller/riser in that range. I would also try to trade a 3rd to jump several spots in the 2nd to nab a key target.
Hexy ain't shy to get his guy. |

They'll have other contracts to extend as well, probably is their primary focus over Stamkos. |

True. IF they can get Kunin at 18 and then trade up and get Dahlen or Abramov, I'd have to strongly consider dropping trou over that |

The CHL import draft is June 28th.........just in case the Flyers take Rubtsov. |

Possible, I just prefer Helm probably a little more then Nielsen at this point. Helm won't be the point producer, but for what it is probably going to cost coupled with his age I think he may be the better play in free agency. |

If they can move all of Datsyuk's money and get somebody to take 70% of Howard's they should be OK-projected $13mm(give or take) with Datsyuk and only 4 key RFAs to re-sign. |

Given the expected cap stagnation, I doubt the Flyers add any significant UFAs.
Unless they can find takers for Streit &/or Read. Which is possible. |

Kyrou didn't have the best year but he was terrific at the tourney. Coach was using him to jump start everyone. He is just slick. I want players with those skill sets. Give me the high ceiling kiddos.
Stransky and Gregor I have on my list, just not near the top. Stransky I think might be a slight reach there. He has the skill, but the knock is skating. Gregor I just find a bit vanilla, but he's a very good skater. |

I guess I don't consider Helm an upper tier FA, that is why I think he is attainable. I'm in the camp of upgrading the bottom 6. I have minimal interest in having both PEB and Cousins manning the last two center spots. It would be nice to see Leier make the jump with two years of AHL seasoning, I hope he is ready. The 4th line was a nice story last year. IMO, a real cup contender can't role that line out over 10 minutes of even strength time and make it to the Conference Finals. |

I wonder if Read doesn't get traded. You need to expose 2 forwards who have played 40 games this year or 70 last two years, who are still under contract for expansion. Read has that written all over him. Not like he can't contribute either.
Really, it isn't the cap that worries me. It's the fact you're adding a FA who needs protection for expansion. |

I don't necessarily look at that as a bad thing. It could be more attractive options that protect some younger pieces you like. Would a team pick a guy like Leier if Helm is available? I just used two somewhat random names but I think it can be used to a teams advantage as much as it would to their disadvantage. They are either protecting a guy they sign cause he is better than who they would've protected otherwise or he isn't protected so they can get out of his contract or he is bait |

Losing Helm is no big deal. It's just...you need to replace him all over again after signing him. Getting players you like in FA isn't easy. It would probably not be shocking to see bigger FAs this year asking for NMCs. Not that Helm is a big FA. Now, if you signed Frans Nielsen otoh, you're probably less eager to expose him to expansion.
Really the goal is to expose as many poopty forwards as we can so they basically have to take AMac lol. |

I agree, but they're going to have some limited cap space to play with after re-signing Schenn & Gudas. I'm OK with Cousins moreso than PEB, who I'd like to see on a wing.
But a guy like Helm would be a good add if they can fit it |

Haha I am definitely all about that plan. I've been saying it all year. That said I am having no worries about signing a UFA that gets drafted. A guy like Helm and potentially a guy like Nielson could carry a lower cap hit with more years and hopefully Laughton/Konecny/etc are all ready for bigger roles after next season |

I just saw an article that speculated Helm wants $3.5+. That's a lot for a player that isn't any better than Raffl at $2.3. |

That's the issue in UFA. Right now as a fringe playoff team, a $3.5mm(actually a second) bottom six guy is a luxury they don't need |
