That did not answer my question any way, shape, or form.

And no, they're both pretty bad.

No it didnt...I was just waiting a little bit to tell you that AppleTV isnt actually a TV at all. It is a device that connects your TV to wifi and provides an interface for streaming shows, pictures, music, etc from your phone or computer.

And how is that better than a service like Netflix and other streaming services that don't require a several-hundred-dollar phone?

And I apologize for nothing thinking that a product called a TV was a TV. Silly me.

Depends. How much more did you Apple TV cost as opposed to a regular TV with comparable specs?
- jmatchett383

AppleTV isn't a TV. It's a device you attach to your TV that gives you access to online content.

Also, I just did a quick check, and Apple TVs are selling, at a glance, at more like $130, not $80. If you say you can find a deal on an Apple TV, I'm gonna assume you could also find a deal better than $200 on the converter you spoke of.

AppleTV doesn't require an iPhone or any kind of phone at all. It is a stand alone device.

Well, I'm also against companies trying to monopolize products. For instance: if company A can offer a superior product, but company B can offer a product that integrates with one of their other products, people with that other product will/may buy from company B simply because "it works with this other thing."

It's not a bad thing, and it's smart of the company. And if you do your due diligence and find that advantages of buying a lower-quality product is still better due to the integration factor, then great. But several people that I know (not a lot, but some) will buy iWhatever's because, "It's Apple, it's better," and need that brand-new iPhone 75 or whatever they're up to the day it comes out. I also know a few who bought iPads, even when they didn't have a reason to buy one, because, "It's Apple, it's got to be good."

I know people of that ilk, too.
I also know people of the frank Apple ilk.

Both types are closed-minded.

I recently purchased a 50" TCL Roku smart HD TV. Totally affordable - high quality and seamlessly integrated all of my online accounts that I used to stream on my laptop (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc.)

HBO smart TV channel is $15 bucks a month. Not sure it's worth that much.

Then why should I get an Apple TV if my phone "happens to be an iphone?" Why would my phone make a difference if it's a stand-alone? And wasn't the basis of Apple TV product integration?

Please tell me, because I'm really not familiar with the Apple TV.

Because you can integrate them easily and then play content that is on your iPhone right onto your television. Same for what is on your Mac. You don't have to, but you can, and that is a great selling feature.

Oh, I'm closed-minded, I can admit that. Not that I have anything against Apple Products or people who buy them, more against the "It's Apple, so I should get it," crowd.

Apple TV is awful - just like iTunes is awful. They compartmentalize TV shows, movies, and music - all for a cost. Frank you very much. Pass.

So after you pay for the Apple TV, you can they pay to stream things to your phone/computer to utilize the Apple TV. Got it.

How is that different than using a stand-alone streaming service or using a WiFi connection?

its actually just an interface for itunes if you are using it that way. its still a million times better for streaming than SmartTV and when I bought it it was, in my opinion, without a doubt the best device for streaming my phone to my TV and onto my speakers
