I got married in a small town...$50k...yikes...I can't remember what we spent...probably $10k+ maybe....but that was 12 years ago.

11years ago and it wasn't in Toronto, was Niagara Falls and 10k gets nothing.

10k doesn't even cover the cost of the hall and food/bar for 150-200 people

Ended up at about $85 per person for 5 course meal and evening buffet, 6 hours of open bar, room rental and all the trimmings, plus the ceremony on site in the hotel grounds on the edge of the lake. We only had about 100 people too which helped keeo the costs down... all in, including our flights back from Edmonton at the time, we managed to get everything in for under $20k. My time working in Fort MAc did a nice job of covering all of that

We got so lucky there. We found a young photographer straight out of school who had just started her business a few months before and so was looking to build up her name in the industry. Ended up paying about $750 for 8 hours of photography, finishing, electronic copies and a dozen regular sized portraits. Other places wanted $3-5k for less...

Absolutely. I had a couple of months between leaving the Fort Mac job and starting grad school so was able to dedicate lots of time to sourcing out the best deals on everything, plus do lots of things my self (wedding stationary, design centrepieces etc).

What helped immensely for the day, though not so much with cost, is that our Maid of honour is a chef (now head chef at Fabbrica in Midtown and awesome winner of chopped canada!) so she came with me to all of the tastings and helped design the menu with the hotel... it worked out so nicely

Jeez... we went to the Casablanca winery inn in Grimsby, and managed to negotiate the package (including about $15 off per person for doing a Sunday wedding). I have to say that the folks there were nothing short of spectacular

It's a good place. The price included all the room rentals and poop as well which was handy, plus they let us decide which beers we wanted, so we stocked up on Mill Streeet brews in addition to the regular ones that they carried.

I was less impressed when my dad put down his tankhouse and proclaimed that he preferred the one he had just finished... which was a Molson (frank)ing Canadian.
