Maybe you're right. It is more ambiguous than how I took it when I first read it.

I was pretty pumped about the Matt Duchene discussion in yesterday's blog. Not saying that a fifth pick would yield Duchene and a second but I do think Colorado could move him. I learned from talking to him at the World Championship just how sharp he is—he'd be on my wish list.

Id love Duchene on the team, but id agree with you dont think the 5th would get him and a 2nd

From what I've seen in the first few games, I would agree that that pairing is the weak link in the defensive scheme of things. They just don't seem to have the footspeed to match up with any of the lines that the Pens throw at them. I've always thought that Dillon had some excellent potential (this was when he was still with Dallas) but it looks like he's going through some growing pains at the worst possible time. Meanwhile Polak is simply too slow to play that type of up-tempo game. It will be interesting how they will be deployed in Game 6 - perhaps they need to triple shift Burns (who has been an absolute beast)

Burns was truely amazing last night, but did you see his interview between periods? Normally the guys look tired but he looked like he hadn't slept in a week and was on some sort of drug binge

Duchene is an established and proven star who still hasn't topped out yet in terms of his over all potential. I don't think there is any way Colorado would trade him unless the package coming back was significant - in fact it would most likely have to be quite a bit of an overpayment by the team seeking to add him to their roster.

I don't think I would even trade Duchene for a chance at Mathews. He's simply too much of a talent and has continued to improve every year. It's not unreasonable to suggest he is a top twenty player in the NHL and, as touched on, I don't think he's hit his ceiling yet

Im sure Wiesbrod will convince Benning that Jankowski is the player you "must" have & he's NHL ready. So Janko & the #35 for that #5 will be a steal for you guys!!!

Yes, he's certainly quite the wild child and won't win any beauty pageants any time soon lol. That said, he is playing some monster hockey these play-offs (if San Jose were to somehow come back and win the series I would have him as my Conn Smythe choice)

"We’re doing our due diligence. If we can move down and get a top-six player and a second-round pick, we have to keep our options open."

He doesn't mean a top 6 now player he means trading down to 12(or somewhere) and getting a future top 6 player. So trading down later into the first and adding a second round pick.

- manvanfan

What JB is saying is for the 5OA, he wants 1. to move down in the first round, 2. get a top six player, and 3. a second rounder.

I think he's saying is that if they can trade down and draft a quality prospect who becomes a top 6 player (?Brown) plus a 2nd rounder, they would consider it.

I don't think trading from 5th to say 9th gets you a top 6er plus a 2nd.

Trading from 5th to 15-30th might... A guaranteed top six player, a first rounder and a second.

That makes sense.

So #5 to Mtl for #9 and #39. Should probably get the #70 as well. If Mtl was really high on moving up, maybe even their #45 instead of #70.

Don't shoot the messenger.

On the 1040 Pratt said this is the hot rumor of what is being offered.

To MTL 5OA

To VAN. 9 th OA 39 th OA and Brendan Gallagher.

That is a top 6 ready now player. Sergachev at 9 , D fixed, and a second round pick like a Tyler Benson comparable. It also makes Rodin or Sven tradable which would probably be a third round pick.

It is something to think about if that type of offer is there.

Gallagher BC boy with four years left at 3.25 per.

Its a great trade but I'm thinking we should shoot the messenger anyways or at least kick him into some sort of giant death pit while proclaiming what nation this is

No personal offense intended sir, I am just a big fan of shooting messengers

Pratt doesn't gain credibility just b/c this rumour is outrageously slanted in the Canucks' favour.
