I agree, problem is - they are at different stages of careers. Barrie is arbitration eligible and will get $6-$7 million in arbitration - has a strong case. His numbers are much better than Erik Johnson's who is making $6 million long term. That is why Colorado is desperate to trade him.

Last thing in the world (as incompetent as they are) Edmonton needs is more picks and to give up the best defenseman in their system. And the other problem is Edmonton is full of over paid and underperforming forwards like Eberle, RNH and Yakapoo - not a good fit - unless Edmonton gives up #4 pick and Avs want it.

Nurse is a god awful defensemen right now. He should have been no where near the nhl last year and is years away from developing. He is not providing help to the oilders anytime soon … and they need to make a move. He is not worth the 4th overall.

I’m sure he’ll get better, but honestly, I’m not really buying into the hype with him. Seems like his upside is more gudbranson than pronger.

You could be right, teams - especially the Oilers, tend to overvalue their prospects. I don't see Edmonton trading Nurse - but I could be wrong. The Oilers are likely to move Yakapov - while he still has value - I don't see Colorado wanting him, but maybe a swap of picks #4 for #10, Yakapov and Barrie, and Colorado can flip Yakapoo to Montreal for a D-man

You can't measure potential deals on the basis of what you might be able to get done. Rather you need to compare your offer with the offers from other teams. So, today you hear rumblings of Barrie for Trouba. Do the Leafs have a better offer?

he's certainly not my #1 want, but considering a top pairing FA that has only missed 1 game in 3 seasons putting up 35-40 points, he's not the worst option.

certainly would cost a chunk of change that could be put to use elsewhere, as wel as not being the best time to sign him as we're still rebuilding/retooling and don't want to squash our cap incase better options come along.

He'd be cheaper and just as effective though I pass on that too. I'd much rather have a Corrado out there than Polak or Russel. No point paying too much for a guy for too long if all you need is a 12min a night guy.

I'm not sure the Leafs make any big splashes for a Dman in the trade market or UFA. I think they'd rather stand pat and maybe sign or trade for a guy like Hunwick again.
