agree..

You can't have too many 2nd/3rd line players.. they'll all command 4+.. that adds up.. Gotta have a couple big ticket guys, and some guys making 1.5ish..

- Arctic_AARDVARK

You need two to three top end talent stars to win in this league.

nope I was pondering what FA D men are available - not a ton that appeal to me

Russell?

Personally, one of our foward prospects if not a few could be traded for a Dman.

Bad week for legends:

Gordie Howe has passed away at age 88.

Most of you guys are too young to remember him, he was one of the best of all time.

Some thought he was the best all around hockey player. Ever. I had a chance to meet him, and will never forget it.

Rest in Peace.

Never met him but he was at a bantam tournament when I played against his sons . I remember him signing autographs patiently when all he really wanted to do was watch his sons Mark and Marty play.

A true gentleman.

it was just a joke but in all seriousness I really like Pujujarvi and wouldn't be upset at all if he's the pick!! might actually prefer it.

good player, and way better attitude than Laine.

Laine will skate with a target on his back for a while.

This was long before NHLers did strength training. He was just a naturally gifted guy who would rip home runs and line drives when he was invited to batting practice with the Tigers. Many pro baseball players said he could have been a very good power hitter if he worked at it.

As far as the goalie search question; would expect to see a goalie picked in 2nd-3rd round this year, but also based on how current management team seems to be trending:
DON'T expect Lou & Co. to go after a UFA goalie this Summer as it is stop-gap only and it doesn't seem to fit current development plan. Seem to only go for stop-gaps to keep on one year deals until the kids progress and to use as TDL chips
Also think they need to be better in net sooner than they would by counting on a guy picked this year to be so they would likely want someone that is expected to be good for another 4-5 years at least.
DO expect Lou & Co to try to pluck a 20-22 year old goalie that is either in the minors or a back-up for a team that already has a top netminder still in his prime.
I don't see any trades for aging stars like Fleury or Miller, Doesn't seem to fit the develop the core model they have been pretty consistent with so far to give up assets for aging vets to only get slightly better in the short term. I think they need to make an educated gamble on someone they think will be good to great in the next year or two but that is still young and cheap.
