Most are talking about the Leafs free agent focus being understandably placed on Stamkos; and most figure it will cost them a cap hit of between 9-11 million over 7 years. Most are also saying that we are about to draft the franchise cornerstone centre we have been craving since Mats' departure.
With the above in mind, would losing out on Stamkos actually be a bad thing when that $9-11 million could be re-allocated? I realise this is ambitious and that I am pipe-dreaming but why not shift the Stamkos focus to guys like Okposo and/or Lucic? Could you get them both for a combined $11-12 million cap hit (Lucic is asking LA for 6)? |

To be completely honest, I'd rather have Stamkos than both Lucic and Okposo.
The Leafs have talented wingers in our prospect pool. They greatly lack center depth and defensive depth. After this year, especially if they can add Stamkos, with drafting Matthews, they will have pretty well solved the center puzzle for a good 7 years or so.
Then the focus will shift to defense and starting goaltending |

Okposo and/or Lucic
both are 28 and will get large contract and term ...i dont think the leafs are in the right position to hand out deals like that .. they finished last in the league and have loads of picks and prospects...let things happen naturally instead of again trying to force it with very risky signings |

agree..
You can't have too many 2nd/3rd line players.. they'll all command 4+.. that adds up.. Gotta have a couple big ticket guys, and some guys making 1.5ish.. |

It would be nice to have a guy who can score and protect some of the rookies..
But Lucic kinda irks me.. a lot of red flags..
Plus, we got Raffi |

Lou is going to trade some skilled forward or pick for a good d-man.
The fans will whine because they think we should have been able to get said d-man for The Goat and a 7th rounder.

Need your goaler to win the odd game for you.
I don't really care who wins...would prefer the Sharks but I'll still be able to sleep at night if the Pens win.
