I think it would be prudent for the Leafs to cull the herd of prospects that they have. We can only have 50 pro contracts and we have allot of draft picks coming through the system in the next 3 years. Players like Lipsic and Kapanen are NHL caliber, but we have better top caliber draft picks coming in the next 2 years. If we could package some of these young players, with the Penguin's first, or our 2nd rounder, we could move down and grab another high caliber player to ease into the system long term. We're starting to look very good, even-though, the Leafs are a very young team. It's time to upgrade what we have by moving young prospect that will be secondary pieces on this team going forward.

I kind of want them to just take the picks at 30 and 31, just to see what they do when they can pick twice in a row.

But yeah, they'll have to make some moves at some point. What a change, for the Leafs to actually have picks and prospects, it's a novelty.

Somehow, we need to get a blue chip defenseman into the organization. If we can get into the 10 to 15 range, we might be able to get what we need. We also need to think about protecting assets, with expansion just around the corner.

Agreed. The Leafs need someone who is good enough to form a 1-2 punch with Rielly (assuming Rielly continues to progress). Whether Rielly is the 1 or the 2 in that combo I don't know yet, but regardless we definitely need another high level D.

Not sure if they can move up as that seems easier said than done, but they seem to be one of the teams in a position to make some transactions.
