Marchenko...WHAT the (frank) are you guys even discussing.
Thats a dumb conversation...debate a 2nd pairing potential guy like hes some stud 1st pairing guy already.

Be better everyone

- DDM-Coga

Firstly, that wasn't HallFan. I came up with that idea so don't blame the wrong guy.

Secondly, that "idea" wasn't talking about Marchenko being noted as a 1st pairing guy. He is a great option for a Top 4 role long term wise, not a top 2. We would still need to acquire a player like Trouba or Shattenkirk for the Top 2 spot. I posted 3 ideas on what it would cost to acquire him;

4th for him and Detroit's 16th (Draft McAvoy with that) which was shot down due to how risky it could turn out for us, but it has a high reward potential yield, especially for a team weak defensively.

Next year's first and a decently good LHD prospect for Marchenko and Detroit's 16th which could be interesting since Detroit would "assume" that we would still finish in the top 10 by next year's draft day (according to history and just how bad our overall team is defensively).

Lastly, a conditional deal where Detroit trades Marchenko and the #16 and in exchange, if Edmonton makes the playoff's, picks 1+2+3 (Detroit would be at or picking between 16th-32nd) of next year's draft go to Detroit, but it we don't make the playoffs, picks 2+3+4 of next year's draft (Where Detroit would probably be picking in the upper 10) go to Detroit.

Give us your mock draft Frenchy.

Also, who are the Andersson and Beauvillier of this draft?

I don't find either particularly appealing since they both only have 1 year left on their respective deals.
Jets will likely want Nurse or Klefbom at any rate. So we weaken one side to strengthen the other. Does it make the team better for it? Not sure.

- Wildschwein

One defender that Chia could try to chase is Dumba.
Minnesota are up against the cap as well. Would Chia try to trade the 4th in exchange for Dumba?

I think that would be a great deal for both teams. The Wild don't need to resign Dumba and they can give Keumper the money he wants, plus if they draft either Tkachuk or Dubois, it helps them either way. My money is on Tkachuk though since they have a couple of good emerging centers atm, but their left side Top 6 are in their 30's already, so there is that.

For Edmonton, Dumba definitely fills a well needed role. He can shoot, pass, hit, be aggressive, and be a great asset for the powerplay.

Edit: Dumba is an RFA too, so no need to worry about losing him, unless someone offer sheets us........

Slow news day. We need some hot takes.

And seriously enough with the (frank)ing Marchenko talk already. As Neon pointed out that trade reeks like the Reinhart trade with Chia not acquiring a solid established top 4 D man and instead using valuable assets on a project player that you hope pans out.

Well, if that is the case then, how does the 4th for Dumba sound?

How is Reinhart doing now? Is he gonna stay AHL to start next season?

Jonathan Dahlén a really interesting player that'll be around the 2nd/3rd round. Will probably be overlooked because he wasn't in any high profile tournaments this year.

Huh. Guess there was a bright side to our injury woes on D last season.
- Wildschwein

No, like an extra year developing in the farm instead of juniors then straight to the show like nurse did

Basically I was saying that nylander coming over early to develop in the A for the year before last, forces the leafs to protect him. While keeping nurse in juniors for that extra season, helped us

Rather add to the 4th and get somebody more established. The 4th is a very valuable asset right now so it should be treated as such and used (possibly in addition to other assets) to acquire as sure-fire of a top 1-3 RD as is available.

Say Dumba is the best possible D-man available that fits that description (I highly doubt it), then maybe you have to swing something but I would start by proposing deals centered around other assets first. Eberle/Yak/Pouliot would all be on that list.

Spurgeon is better than Dumba and I wouldn't do the 4th straight up for him.

I would like to see him play at least the first half the season in the AHL next year with potential for a call up if he earns it. He could benefit from the extra minutes/development at that level and so could Nurse frankly.
