There isn't a lot of point in Petry. It isn't what they need anymore.

PK is unlikely to happen considering the cost. Your looking at the 4th pick, a high end prospect and top 4 defender or top 6 forward.

His contract also requires cap to go back to Montreal.

Is Edmonton comfortable giving up Nurse, Yakupov, and the 4th overall pick for Subban? If so they would have to take on Ference to help balance the cap maybe giving Edmonton a mid round pick or prospect to balance it out. Problem there is it is an increase of $3M in cap this year and $6.5M next. That's a lot of cap space for a team with lots of EL deals.

So how about a more cap friendly deal like Sekera, Yakupov, 4th overall, & 62nd overall picks? Is not getting a Nurse type player worth PK?

Then of course you have to ask does Edmonton really want to pay such a huge package including the top pick for a $9M defenseman?

It's just something that keeps getting said here, never seen anything where Shattenkirk actually said that, he has just commented before playing Rangers/Bruins that he always enjoys playing out east... just like pretty much every player does when asked how does it feel to be playing near home.

Shattenkirk being UFA next year means you can negotiate an extension then not sign it until after expansion draft. While pretty much any other of these names being mentioned would be lost to expansion draft, or Klefbom would. Since you have to protect your 2 defensemen with NMC's.

4th for Ellis, guy is awesome but plays behind Josi and Webber

Yeah but now you've burned the #4 for Marchenko who is still very much a maybe (and until he shows otherwise that's exactly what he is) and a rookie who may or maynot make an impact in the NHL.
How the hell is that going to help us THIS YEAR? A decade of poop is enough for me. Either take the best available player with #4 or trade it for a Hamonic/Barrie/Spurgeon+/etc...

I don't think hamonic is still available, and I'm really hoping he isn't. If the isles moved him I'd be pretty disappointed. If they move him for a draft pick that won't help them immediately(need a top line winger) I'll be pretty pissed off.

I think the oilers draft best player available at #4 and then look to make a move for a solid 2-3 rhd. If they need to package the #4 and one of their forwards to get a top pairing guy, I think it's a worthwhile deal if the player they get is under contract for several years and under 28. Get someone who will be a huge upgrade on d and who will be around for a while. shattenkirk would be nice, but without a contract extension that's too risky imo.

as much as I poke fun at the oilers, they're literally a leddy and boychuk type move away from becoming a legitimate playoff team. there's tons of talent up front, good goaltending and there's just not enough on the defense yet, but they're right on the edge.

I can see what you mean by the rookie perspective (Yakupov is a player that comes to mind...).

Believe me, I've had enough of losing too, but we can't act so irrationally either. We also need to look ahead as well.

What if Jones was acquired via offer sheet? Or Trouba via trade?

Trouba/Jones, Marchenko, and McAvoy for the #4th and Eberle/Money would be a massive overhaul defensively and it would be great NHL wise and prospective wise.

Otherwise, drafting tkachuk is no different than drafting another young prospect defender in chycrun or sergachev. Not only is it a question mark, but it's years before they're making a huge impact.
