can't believe I'm back at this again already.
IF Stamkos was a possibility, IF he was a possibility, would you be game for that or no.
Assuming high on the re-signs, our forward group can look like:
Zajac (5.75), Cam (5), Palm (5), Henrique (4), Jo (1.3), DSP (1.3), Kalinen (1), Boucher (1), Blandisi (1)
This is also who I'd like to bring back, fwiw. Consider we have Zacha, Quenneville, Pietila, etc may be options. (this would be the stay the course from last season strategy)
If not them, this leaves us with 3 open spots. All of our kids are under 1mil each, so we can assume a max of 3mil for those 3 spots (if we don't sign a UFA or bring back Elias)
Defense, assuming high:
Greene (5), Larsson (4.166), Moore (1.666), Merrill (1.3), Schlemko (1.3), Santini (.925), Severson (.606)
Schneider (6), Kinkaid (.725)
This brings us to a grand total of just over 50mil. Does Clowe's 4.85 count against the cap? The only somewhat pricey re-sign we have in the future is Henrique after the 18-19 season, but Cam will be coming off the books so that cancels out. We're in cap heaven for the foreseeable future, and have about 20 million in space. Maybe Zacha or Severson will command 4 a piece in a few years? maybe?
Technically.. we can overpay Stamkos over 10mil and still be ok to grab 29 year old Yandle for 5yrs/30mil, or get Eriksson for around the same price (again assuming high). Or just bring back Stempniak. Okposo will probably cost a little more than Eriksson?

Apparently Ray has been calling about Hall and RNH - willschulme
I've been wanting to see Hall-Henrique back together since we drafted Henrique. Those 2 did work back in the day. Obviously the NHL is different, but it would be fun to see what they could do. |

Idk if Stamkos + Eriksson makes us instant contenders (we may have to add a D to solidify the Merrill situation..), but we'd definitely be a playoff team.
And we wouldn't really have any cap issues in the future with Cam coming off the books at around the same time one of our kids could command a nice pay raise. Zajac would also be coming off the books down the line to give us some breathing room to add or give raises.
Keep in mind.. Stamkos is just 26. It's not acquiring a veteran star on the downside.. he's got many years left in his prime. Palmieri is 25, Henrique is 26, Larsson is 23, and then you have the kids with Zacha, Quenneville, Boucher, Blandisi, Severson, Santini, etc.
Schneider being 30 is the biggest number to consider when you think about sucking another year or trying to build. We have young top 6 players (and Stamkos would be another YOUNGish franchise forward).
I say we go for the gold.
Eriksson-Stamkos-Palmieri
Cammalleri-Henrique-Blandisi
Zacha-Zajac-Boucher
DSP-Josefson-Kalinen
Greene-Larsson
Moore-Severson
Santini/Merrill-Schlemko
maybe look at Yandle on the 2nd pair too.
That's not too bad of a lineup to have for the next 3 years, at which point Cam leaves. Everyone else (if qualified this year) will be around, and the kids.. Zacha, Blandisi, Boucher, DSP, Kalinen, etc.. will ALL hopefully improve as well.. while established guys Stamkos, Palmieri, Henrique, probably even Eriksson, wouldn't really decline much at all. It's a win in my book.

HOPEFULLY it means we get rid of zajac's or cammy's contract. We're already screwed in having to protect clowe cause he has a NMC. (Thanks Lou!) Wait a minute, does anyone know if Zajac has a NMC? |

All I did was outline our situation, and in my above post I went into cap/salary details. We CAN afford Stamkos, and it would actually be smart to get him, given his young age.
of course we won't, but it's fun to dream.
I just play the game. All these modes.. I just wana play seasons and actually play hockey in an NHL game. |

I think the hardest thing to predict is where Stamkos signs. We have no idea what he is thinking. It is possible he goes all left field and signs to the highest bidder ( which could be us ) or he resigns where he is comfy and knows his game and role and nothing changes or he takes on the challenge of being the canadian hero the toronto kid to bring the cup back lol. |

I'm in the year 2022 in my GM mode on NHL 16 lol. Schneider is long gone. Zacha and Blackwood are beasts. |

If Stamkos and Eriksson signs here it may cause a rift in the space -time continuum that could kill us all... But if not it'll be awesome to see them playing with Kovy! |

I think I'm like 5 seasons into it and my current lines are
Skinner-Rico-Palms
Benson-JJ-Zacha
Boucher-fake 1st rd. pick-DSP
Thomson-Kujawinski-Quenneville
All I do is bring the puck up and shoot with Zacha lol he has like 30 goals in 60 games his 3rd season |

Did you enjoy that ? I could never get a hand full of people to do it. My brother and I tried once but it didn't go very far.I imagine if you got 29 other Gms it is pretty awesome. |

I ran a league and had 16 people, we all loved it.
Wouldn't do it with less than 8 guys. |

I did a Madden league least year with full teams, it's was actually pretty cool minus that fact that I'm not as great as madden as I used to be. Mainly because madden comes out within a month of NHL and all my time goes to that. If they ever brought back connected GM I'd be interested in joining a league for sure! I bet you can get a bunch of guys to fill in spots just by asking around here. |

Highly doubt Stamkos would even slightly consider coming to NJ. Even for a max contract. I just don't see it happening. Although I would love it and he may lure others to sign along with him. Who knows. |
