I have Rubtsov.........large gap........Jones...small gap...Gauthier. I personally want neither Gauthier nor Jones. I would take Rubtsov, Kunin, Bellows, Bean, Abramov, or a trade back/up over them. Not quite sold on either as the type of high ceiling, high IQ players I prefer.

Kunin, Rubstov, Jones, Asplund, & Bean probably my top 5 (in no order) which as always is subject to change shortly

This is based on who I think would actually be available.

Would you be willing to give up the higher 2nd round pick to go up and get Rubtsov?

If they feel he is THE guy and want to trade up to say 15, giving up a 2nd isn't the worst thing. I'm a big fan. I do really like others though, those I mentioned around 18. I'd really love to see Rubtsov or Kunin fall and then we trade up into late late first/early second for Dahlen/Abramov. That would be a dream. My ultimate dream is to trade up to 9/10 for Keller -- that's who I would really really target for a trade up in the 1st. And I would trade quality assets to do it. Either scenario would be fantastic.

I know you have always been big on Jones. Asplund is a different one to name. He's certainly around there but you don't hear his name bandied about much for 18. That report seemed glowing though. He's a guy I haven't explored a ton. I remember seeing him at U20s though.

YuenglingJagr is eager to know who are some 6/7 round targets. He will be happy.

You still on the Pu for 2nd round train or rethinking? Any new names?

Koivula, Otto LW – Ilves (Fin U20) – 6'04", 219 HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 193

Big winger whose offensive instincts are quite good. Koivula is a really smart kid who can create scoring opportunities for his linemates and for himself too. Good puck handling skills and he can operate with the puck in small places. He’s a raw talent who doesn't use his physical tools as well as he could. On top of using his size more consistently, his skating will need a lot of improvement in both technique and quickness. At the moment he’s a pure offensive player but he reads the game well and if he can improve his skating he could be an effective player in all three zones. His strengths work at the junior level and he finished this season 49 games with 58 points. He made his Finnish elite league debut also but he’s not ready to become a full-time pro yet.

Reichel, Kristian RC – HC Litvinov (CZE) – 6'01", 167 HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 186

Reichel is a diligent center who has a decent if lanky frame-size, a big shot and plays a mature game. Strong in the face-off circles. Reichel has shown a high IQ through his decisions. Most of his appearances this season were for Litvinov U20 but he also appeared in 20 games for the men’s team in the top Czech league.

Reichel makes smart reads when opening up for pucks and can also distribute the puck well, while not being terribly flashy. He’s got a nice frame-size that has some filling out to do, looks good when handling the puck at speed with his reach even if he doesn’t possess high-end skills. Reichel likes to use his slapshot. On the PP he can let it rip from the left-circle with his right shot. He likes to use his slapper at even strength as well, and has show good power and accuracy behind it with a slowly rising shot that gets through. Compete level is not an issue but he could improve his ability to maintain possession in the offensive-zone and get his frame more involved on the cycle while establishing offensive zone control. Has some strong hockey bloodlines in him; father is IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame forward Robert Reichel.

Karafiat, Jiri RW/RC – HC Zlin U20 (CZE) – 6'02", 169 HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 178

Karafiat is a competitive centre. Strong in the face-off circle, very tough to beat. Coach loved to use him a lot - power play, penalty kill, empty net, etc. It was not uncommon to see him log the most ice time on his team in our viewings this season. Has been used on the wing, but looks more confident at centre where he can be in the middle of everything. Likes playing in pressure situations and was a workhorse for Zlin this season. With his size, he is very strong on the puck, hard to knock off. Works hard in all three zones - doesn’t quit on the back check and can fill in as defenseman if coverage is lost. Doesn’t have a fluid stride or a high gear, will need to develop this area. But he thinks the game at a high speed in the offensive zone and is still figuring out how to not overcompensate for his teammates in the defensive zone. Possesses a great one-timer that is utilized on the power play and hard wrist shot. Strength is not a weak area for Karafiat.

Would anyone move Morin to Boston for 14th overall? Take Bean at 14 and BPA at 18?

Boston needs D sooner rather than later with Chara's play falling off a cliff...

Boston? They would absolutely do that trade I would think. He fits their mold, NHl ready almost...their d is wretched. "Next Pronger" becomes "Next Chara" haha. Why would WE do it is my first thought. I am all for trading Morin for a quality return, but that is not it imo.

The other day Tomahawk and I were throwing around the idea of Morin to Montreal for 9 to take Keller. That I would do for that specific player. Not 14 in this draft.

Obviously you're not very high on Morin. I don't think 14 is a big stretch for his value.

Joe Snively is my guy for the 7th round. He was arguably Yale's best forward last year as a 20 year old freshman. He's about 5'9 and thin as a rake, but he is an absolute wizard with the puck. He's 2nd only to Ghost in terms of creativity, as far as players I've seen live in New Haven. He is a deceptive, agile skater, but his top end speed isn't great. Snively ended up being the guy who would take the ice with a one goal lead in the final minute. His shot isn't pro quality, but he is smart enough to beat goalies at the NCAA level.I doubt he is in the book, but he is a high risk forward I'd love the flyers to take in round seven. If he bulks up and improves his speed he could turn out to be an offensive force.

Both of those Czechs sound interesting...for late picks, I always like taking a chance on skill and smarts. Of course they have their flaws hence why they are ranked there, but the blurbs are nice.

With the Flyers drafting Kase, I'm sure they are looking in that end of the world. Of course the undersized Kase was already in the Czech 2 men's league and doing well. But that Reichel kid played a few late games with Czech 1 league and did well...that's intriguing. I'm a big big fan of mining the talents of Europe with late picks. Players always go undervalued there relative to the main NA leagues. Often with similar talent levels.

The Flyers were extremely fortunate that they had MacDonald when Del Zotto went down. If they had to play another call up, they may have struggled to make the playoffs. MacDonald played solid hockey after the call up, indicated by Hakstol's trust in him, including playing him 22 minutes in game 6, with the season on the line.
