I'm not sure there's a more overrated band in existence. Maybe Skynyrd.

The league's favorite team is probably Toronto. They haven't won anything in ages. The NHL is a business, which is why I don't understand why there are so many teams in garbage markets.
- Victoro311

Lots of people from the mid west and NE moved to the sunbelt in the 90's. It was a gamble to relocate teams from markets that were economically depressed, but its a good risk IMO. I lived in ATL and only knew a few from GA, most were from OH, Mass etc....there are roughly 6 million people in the metro and tons of massive companies HQ there along with the busiest airport in the world. It was just terribly run by ownership and management.

Dallas has been a good fit, Nash as well. FLA was a terrible idea.

He is unique. He is big; has deceptive speed it looks like; battles well and looks like he does have good puck possession skills and is a quality penalty killer. Rev probably appreciated him more because he has season tickets in Wilkes Barre and has seen what he could do. I have to admit, there are guys that I look at their stats and decide. There were a bunch here years ago that had a fetish with Setoguchi. They wanted him. Boy, put him with Sid or Geno and watch him go. I laughed and said he sucked. He wasn't good any year once leaving Joe T's line in SJ. Then there are guys like Fehr and Kuhnackl that I see what they bring to the table. It might not translate to high goal or point totals, but they do enough good to help you put the W in the column.

I (frank)ing loved The Gooch, but mostly because he was half Japanese. I have weird cultural fixations like that. I just love seeing diversity in a mostly white washed sports. Its why I'm so excited for Austin Matthews since he's half Mexican.

Not many people liked Kuhnhackl at first. Not many at all. The only guy I can really remember liking him was Hardnosed and maybe Rev, but I think Rev just liked him because he wasn't Plotnikov. Kuhnhackl adds a unique element to this team that none of our other guys really have, same way Cole does. I think that's why this team is so successful. We're not a one trick pony. Most of our guys are speedsters, but we have enough variety throughout the lineup that we can do a little of everything. As I've said several times, team identity is extremely important, but not everyone on the team needs to be in the mold of said identity. They just need to be able to compliment them if they're a bit different. And guys like Kuhnhackl, Hornqvist, Cole, and to a lesser extent Fehr have been very good compliments.

We all know every one can't score 30 goals and that isn't needed. When you have a team of guys with established roles and ACCEPT (buy in) them that team is a tough out.

Read one time where an analyst made it simple to understand. Said guys like Kane would never score a goal unless he had guys like Toews to win the puck battles and get it too him.

I'm the kinda guy who never met a bottom 6 guy he didn't like. Saw Kuhnackl in the regular season and liked his, size speed and north-south game. But when I saw him pull away from Burns it really impressed after seeing Burns catch Hagelin in this series.

Fun kid to watch.

I was rooting for the D-pair of Alex Martinez and Raphael Diaz for a bit, until I remembered one was from Switzerland.

Gooch had a great start to his career, but can to a crashing halt shortly after.

The NHL is simply following the money. The only flaw in their plan (and it's a big one) is most of the north eastern people take their loyalties with them. If I ever left this area, I would never bother with the teams in my new city. Maybe see a game or two, but I'd just get the cable packages for NHL, MLB and NFL to see MY teams.

JMO, people automatically assumed Florida would take off for hockey based on snowbirds being down there from mid October to May. Tampa looks like it can support itself; Miami is a different bird. I think Miami is a bad sports town to begin with, as someone who went to grad school down there. They aren't drawing that well in baseball. We won't talk about Tampa's draw.

I've made this statement before. Miami is a horrendous sports town because it's such a great place to live. People don't have to invest emotionally in sports teams in order to achieve happiness.

Also (frank) Metalica.

I always thought the cap was a function tied to league profits?
- Victoro311

I think its percent of revenues. So depends on how large the variance is in revenues between teams. I'd assume if that hits even 30% that you would get a few teams that are budget teams. But depends on Union negotiations. Think its 50% about of hockey revenue. So its possible to have every team profitable at cap spending, but that would imply the players union isn't negotiating a good deal. New York/chicago teams would be making a killing.

Especially under NHL system where its a very hard cap. NFL/NBA have a lot of ways to spend over the cap (Signing bonuses etc).

I'm guessing National Television contracts. You want the big stations putting NHL games on. To make it worthwhile for them they wanted to turn hockey into a nationwide sport which meant southern teams.
