Unless something career-ending happens to Eichel or O'rilley (like they fall off their toilet) We have time to build up our center depth. it might hurt Rochester for a few years, but if we had someone busting out of the AHL right now, we would have no where to put them any way. We'll probably be plugging and playing out bottom 2C's for the next 7-10 years considering where we're at with our top 2.

That's the way I see it too
If guys like Larsson & Girgensons become too expensive for 3rd line center duties...
That's where we'd need a guy like Hurley, Estephan, or Cornel to hopefully be able to step in. I see Malone & Schaller as 4th line guys.
Regardless though...
With the Salary structure we'll have,
Not much will be spent on the bottom6 centers
And if we're as good as we think we'll be...
Then down the road we should be able to bring in some Vets who will sign on the cheap side to fill those holes

At which position?
We're actually in really good shape (as far as depth goes) with plenty of forwards coming up through the system

- jdfitz77

Every position besides center. We don't have a deep team, nor do we have a deep farm. Every team has injuries in playoffs, need to be able to overcome those when our time comes

Apologize in advance for asking this when I'm sure it's been discussed... but i have been unable to pay any attention as of late:
What is the latest on Stamkos and the 'inside info?'

Lack of depth will kill this team if it's not addressed

We were horrible everywhere on the last day of the season last year, with the possible exception of Risto.

We addressed lots of holes last year in the offseason. We have two glaring needs right now (sniper, LHD1), and then we have to replenish depth.

Every step is important, but every step takes time.

Bailey, Fasching, Baptiste, Olofsson, Possler, Cornel, Karabacek, Rodrigues, Carrier, Catenacci and a few more I think I'm forgetting, are all projected as NHL wingers

I think we're very good as far as "depth" goes on the wings
We just need a couple of them to become "top6" guys
Or sign Stamkos & Vesey, and then we're in really good shape

So to put together the opinions we've seen in the last ten minutes:

we're great at center, we're average depth at the blue line, decent at goalie depth, and stocked at the wing.

But without more depth we're just SCHEISS.

That's classic Hockeybuzz.

eichel and reinhart with big club

zads, gringo, compher and pick 31 for ror hurts the pool
pick 21 for an injured goalie hurts
lemieux, armia, a first and myers also sets it back a bit

We are stocked at wing? I like Bailey a lot but jeez. Outside of him and Fasching we have a ton of ?'s.

I don't want to bash the Sabres for not being stacked in the farm system just because their recent high draft picks have matriculated to the NHL quickly (eichel, Reinhart, risto). Think of it this way...today Toronto has a "stacked" pipeline. If Matthews, Marner, and Nylander all jump to the NHL next year does their farm system suddenly suck??

I'm satisfied if my blue chip guys are in the NHL, otherwise we are playing the endless Darcy game of "man, just wait till 3 years from now..."

For 89: I know you don't know what will happen, but I'm curious based on your inside info and your knowledge, what you would predict to happen this off-season. Especially regarding Stamkos...
- Cup Crazy '07

All I got was, Stamkos is the number 1 priority, A few fall back options if that doesn't happen. He will move the 8th pick but doesn't have a problem keeping it, LHD is needed, up in the air as to what happens with Girgensons and Foligno, both want raises around 4 mill and 3 mill.

Sabres have a lot of picks that can put into a package, I didn't hear anything about offer sheets. I mentioned an offer sheet regarding Stamkos a couple weeks back but that's was to piss off Leaf fans that were on the blog.

Toronto still has Kapanen, Bracco, and Brown who are very good prospects behind them. Plus they have picks 30 and 31, and 56 if Pitt wins cup.

We really do have at best mediocre forward prospects except for maybe Fasching and Bailey. We need a couple players worthy of a 2nd round position culminating down there. Defense is quite rough outside of Guhle, Martin, Borgen.. could use another top prospect (8th) and our 2nd rounder, poop you could go with anything because we need a quality asset that we'd allow to mature through Rochester.
