I said it at the time, and I'll say it now

the Rangers should have treated McDonagh and Stepan exactly the same in the summer of 2013

if they did, they'd both have 4.7 mil cap hits right now

- jimbro83

If you remember that summer correctly jimbo, the Rangers literally couldn't give Stepan anymore money. We had like 3.8M left to sign Stepan after all the other deals were done. The Rangers had absolutely no other option than give him a bridge deal.

Edit: I looked up an article and we had 2.1M in cap space while Stepan was holding out. I guess we cut a couple players on cheap deals to fit him in.

You can always make deals like that fit if you really want to.

I think the bottom line was they went into that summer making McDonagh the priority and treating Stepan second class. Stepan had just come off 44 points in the 48 game lockout season. They both should have been treated equally and it's biting them now with Stepan's monster hit

I don't know...we had 200k of cap space that season after the final roster was set. And that was with Zucc making 1.1M, Hags making 2.1M, Pouliot making 1.3M, Brassard making 3.7M, Stralman making 1.8M, Kreider making 800k and before Staal and Girardi's extensions.

That team was already squeezed and nickled and dimed. Every single player.

I think the bottom line was they didn't have any other option

It was McDonagh or Stepan who would get that 4.7M and I think management made the right decision picking McDonagh.

Yea I mean if anyone can figure out how to squeeze an extra 1.7M out of this team, I'm all ears:

they need to Stepan to play like he did the second half last last year right from the get go

beginning of last year, early on he had that teeth issue which was lingering problems due to the Brandon Prust hit breaking his jaw and then that Beleskey hit derailed him for awhile

no more excuses, at 6.5 million, he needs a 70 point season minimum

God you're so (frank)ing soft I can't (frank)ing stand it

(frank) this team blow it up and trade the core. Rangers can't afford to "wait it out one year" because pansies like you are emotionally attached and physically attracted to men with bald heads and blue eyes.

I don't know what RD's problem is. He feels the need to try to come after me once a month... He must be drinking cranberry juice.
