Someone has to tell the Habs fans the truth about "all their boughten cups"
I found out that person isn't supposed to be me. - Garnie
We should say the same thing to the Yankee's.You honestly sound stupid everytime you bring this up. They still had to play the games, 24(1 was pre NHL) cups is whats down in history how they got there players does not matter. Say that to Real Madrid. I'd consider tanking for the 1st pick to be perfectly ok with you i presume. |

Funny how so many reports start with the assumption that Laine is the likely winner of the Calder this season. Yet, it does not appear to impact on the Leafs choosing to take someone else with their first round pick. Do you think if it was any team other than the Leafs making this pick, the selection would be different? Everyone seems certain that Laine is the overwhelming favourite of Jets management and fans.
Is it possible that this draft turns out to be a huge blunder by Leaf management? They are in a very difficult position. I think Matthews is the right pick. But, if Laine is the goal scorer everyone expects, if he wins the Calder and if he becomes an on ice leader and MVP for the Jets there may be some unhappy blue and white supporters. - spatso

Unfortunately for the 6'4'' Finn, he injured his left knee while on the V02 max bike test today. As a result, Laine will be "sticking mostly to upper-body workouts and avoiding any stress below the waist" for Saturday's fitness events.
Finally, JetsTV gifted viewers with video of a Patrik Laine media scrum at the combine. In addition to answering an obligatory Teemu Selanne-related question, Laine elaborated on the aforementioned leg injury, acknowledging that it was the same knee he had surgery on in 2013

theres also, literally, no need to. Our D (well, top 4 D) and goalie situation is a lot more barren than any needs at forward (counting in Matthews here).
Also, I'm not that impressed by Nylander in terms of what he could become (this harkening back to the comment about trading for his brother), both Marner and Matthews have a higher ceiling in that regard. We'll see, though.
Kapanen even less so, if you can trade him in a package for someone decent, especially on D, I wouldn't look back. - Buggy166
A little late to the party here, but why is there such a desire to just pawn off Kapanen for a prospect? I have seen these comments floating around for awhile, and I am thinking we are already getting rid of this kid in a package, etc. and he is only 19 years old?
Furthermore, he seems to be the guy when the game is on the line scoring big goals. Personally, I wouldn't mind hanging on to a Gelinas type of guy when we need that goal down the line.
Let's give him another year in the AHL and see what he's made of before shipping him out for a "possibly" better player in the draft. If it's for a more established D, it would have to be a pretty darn good Top 4 guy for me to even think about moving him out.

As you know I am pretty good natured and seldom complain. But what am I supposed to do when someone takes one of my postings (or part of my posting) off of an entirely different thread and posts it on another one. This happens most days.
I know you guys love me and for the most part are very respectful and supportive. However it is pushing the outer edges of good discourse to misappropriate another person's words or ideas.
But, for the most part, you are all very kind and courteous and I do appreciate your tolerance and patience in allowing me to participate in your exciting draft deliberations. |

I think the hurt is being attributed to the trip by Corey Perry at the WHC where Laine was named MVP.

Dude, you're hard on for Laine is getting really old. The Matthews-Laine conversation is over. Leafs ARE taking Matthews. Who are the Sens picking at #12? Please discuss in the Sens thread!!! |

Perry hit Laines knee so hard, Laine had to time travel to 2013 for surgery. |

Some things that have come up regarding laine that are worrisome.
When he was 16 he was thrown off the national team for threatening the coach. He said he was upset he wasn't getting theice time he wanted and the team was loosing. By all accounts he's matured since then and says he acted wrongly. What happens if he's not getting the ice he wants in the nhl? Also, the article I read the other day says that everything has come so easy for him this past year that he's faced no adversity..... My worry is what becomes of him when he does face that adversary? Has he learned to cope with and overcome? |

I dont even think the Leafs have a single doubt about Matthews. They're all about solid character, class, professionalism. |
