I'm pretty sure we should just draft the guy who benches the most.
Safe play. |

Or the weakest guy since he will have the most room for improvement. Having the 1st overall pick sucks. |

Pretty sure it's 150 lbs they are benching, but they have to do it according to their guidelines. They have beeps for when to go down and up. Guys usually push more but only get credit for a handful because of the guidelines. |

Dug this up from 2015 combine
Conducted using a standard padded bench with the
athlete
lifting 70-80% of
his body weight (pre-determined)
http://avalanche.nhl.com/...t_Event_Summary_FINAL.pdf
so Matthews would of been doing 170 - 175lbs
Girard - 120lb or 125 lb reps
or 130lb cant remember if he was 160lbs or 155 and under

This is mostly just for teams to figure out what areas players need to work on so it's a pretty fair system imo.
If this was a weight lifting championship that would indeed be BS though lol |

Does it matter? This kid is the real deal, the toast of the draft class. Any flaw they find at the combine will be inconsequential and serve as nothing more than fodder for idiot fans that want nothing more than to discredit the kid because he's gonna be a Leaf.
Oilers fans know this.Christ there was even a campaign ( albeit short lived and perpetuated by few) that tried to say Eichel>McDavid because the hated Oilers were getting him. |

Who cares. bench presses etc, don't determine a players hockey IQ or skill level. He's still the #1 pick.
And.... we all love Big Mac's. |

The Pegula family and the Buffalo Sabres organization has redefined the NHL Scouting Combine. In the past two years of hosting this special event, the Sabres have added tremendous value, exposure, and equity to the scouting combine brand.
Before Buffalo got it's hands on the NHL Scouting Combine, it was hosted in a downtown Toronto hotel ballroom like a "get rich quick" seminar would be. The scene was crowded, disjointed, and very confusing to the participants and to the media. Nothing about the Toronto model screamed "hockey". It was a mess. From a draft prospect standpoint, it was a "bust".
