I dont even think the Leafs have a single doubt about Matthews. They're all about solid character, class, professionalism. - systemtool
To think, this all started by hiring Shanny and the rest followed!!! Great move!!!!! I have no doubt Hunter will assemble one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL!!!
This team will be a powerhouse in a few years. Can't wait!!!! |

Some things that have come up regarding laine that are worrisome.
When he was 16 he was thrown off the national team for threatening the coach. He said he was upset he wasn't getting theice time he wanted and the team was loosing. By all accounts he's matured since then and says he acted wrongly. What happens if he's not getting the ice he wants in the nhl? Also, the article I read the other day says that everything has come so easy for him this past year that he's faced no adversity..... My worry is what becomes of him when he does face that adversary? Has he learned to cope with and overcome? - burn
But, we still have the practical reality that an increasing number of analysts believe that Laine will start the season as the leading contender for the Calder. I really think that is something that needs to be pondered.

Not sure what the future holds but it's alot more brighter and promising than anything we've seen in about a dozen years. |

No. Ponder in the Sens thread. Your story is getting old. |

I think there is a time in my life where a bipolar diagnosis may have been highly likely. However, I am certain that it is not appropriate in terms of today. I don't mind my words being moved between threads. My concern is that they might be interpreted significantly different than intended based on the theme of the thread itself. - spatso
Well that's your problem.... Perhaps you shouldn't talk out of one side of your mouth in one thread and a different side in another thread. no one is taking anything out of context because it's a different thread. That is such a weak excuse. So lame. So pathetic. |

Of course you do.
Does it really matter who wins the Calder. Mcdavid not gonna win Calder, guess Edmonton shouldn't have taken him? |

He's certainly not the "good human being" type that Mike and the management are looking to represent the organization and the city itself.
It's a shame because he actually looks like a decent player. |

Doesn't matter anyways..
Theres a better player in his draft class and the Leafs have the 1st pick.. |

Spatso said he never said take Laine 1st, but walshy found a post saying exact opposite. |

You sure?
Funny how so many reports start with the assumption that Laine is the likely winner of the Calder this season. Yet, it does not appear to impact on the Leafs choosing to take someone else with their first round pick. Do you think if it was any team other than the Leafs making this pick, the selection would be different? Everyone seems certain that Laine is the overwhelming favourite of Jets management and fans.
Is it possible that this draft turns out to be a huge blunder by Leaf management? They are in a very difficult position. I think Matthews is the right pick. But, if Laine is the goal scorer everyone expects, if he wins the Calder and if he becomes an on ice leader and MVP for the Jets there may be some unhappy blue and white supporters. - spatso

I wonder if the Pens win easily tonight in SJ if they throw game 4 to win it at home in game 5??
obviously they don't want to give the Sharks any hope, but a cup win on home ice is so much better. |
