"Nice road trip" was driving Edmonton to Montreal...
- lumlums

I did Toronto to Edmonton, that actually is really nice. The northern Ontario part anyway, around Lake Superior is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. The prairies section was a novelty to me because I'd never seen anything like that, and after the hills of Ontario it was fun to just mash the gas pedal and go Vanishing Point on the poop. The drive from Toronto to Montreal is pretty boring.

Yeah, I'd have liked to have missed out that latter part, but I had to drop off Mrs Lums, my brother and the dog before making the solo trip from Hamilton - Montreal... Barf.

Northern Ontario really is beautiful as you say though

So Matthews playing his entire life on NHL sized ice is negated due to 50 some odd games on the big...but Laine's shift will be instantaneously glorious...I see.
- AdamFrench

Correct me if I am wrong but my assumption is that Matthews bona fides are tied to his development on the international stage especially as part of the US national hockey development program. Is the assumption incorrect that most of the really hard evaluation took place during tournaments played on big ice?

not sure if someone asked, but if this is true then Nathan horton would have to be protected, that's kind of funny
- Ross77

To break it down by days We did Edm-Wpg (~14.5 hrs), Wpg - Wawa (~13.5 hrs), Wawa - Hamilton (~10 hrs)

Mathews is the clear number one

Laine is the clear number two.

Get over it. We all talk about the leafs drafting Mathews because the leafs will draft Mathews. They've made they're pick. They are going to pick the best prospect available. Laine is a great prospect as well. But Mathews is simply better and has been from day one.

- Santo_44

Everyone has said this in some way or another over 100 times and yet here we are again Spatso showing up wanted us to get into a big debate about Mathews vs Laine.

Buying out lupul would be stupid. We have tons of cap space over the next two seasons so its best to just burn out his contract instead of keeping him on the books for four more years. If we need room on the roster just waive him down to the minors.

The way I did it, it took three days. As I recall that was driving 8 to 10 hours a day and then stopping at a motel.

Leafs should trade their #1 pick for Jaromir Jagr

I did Niagara to Winnipeg. That part above superior is fantastic. Wish we had been able to experience more. It was basically night when we did that part. Went from the sault at dinner to Thunder Bay at like midnight.

Edmonton gets a bad rap, I like it. The big mall is pretty bad though. What the hell were they thinking. It's one of the most depressing places on earth. I have to admit I was cheering for the wildfire to make a beeline for that poop.

I was actually hoping the Leafs would sign him for a year. Need the veterans who are good in the room and a good example
