I find it somewhat ironic when people imply that I am saying something new or different. I have been a regular poster on the Leaf thread for 10 years. the mere fact that I have changed my team preference from Leafs to Sens does not mean that I am less interested in the fortunes of the Leafs.

I have always thought that Laine would come back into the discussion. Matthews is probably the better choice but Laine is going to be something very special and probably a big goal scorer from day one.

I have repeatedly said that they also need to look at Laine as he has had a monster second half of a season. So, we know that they have been looking and thinking about Laine. Why should people be upset?

You can tell by his preoccupation with the Leafs' first overall pick that he is contemplating switching back. Can't blame him, watching the Leafs' forwards walk around Phaneuf for six years is going to be tough.

Mathews is the clear number one

Laine is the clear number two.

Get over it. We all talk about the leafs drafting Mathews because the leafs will draft Mathews. They've made they're pick. They are going to pick the best prospect available. Laine is a great prospect as well. But Mathews is simply better and has been from day one.

The explanation is much simpler. I just plain love the draft and the kids. It is the great coming out party for all this young talent. It is the most fun talk in hockey if your team or teams are not part of the Stanley Cup chase.

I suppose it is just my way of saying "I told you so." But, that would not be polite or considerate of others so I will refrain from taking a victory lap in my bright, new, shiny SHORT BUS.

Kessel(before the last two years) scored in the top 6 like every year) but he couldn't even be named in the same breath as Kopitar, Toews, Getzlaf even though he out scores them. Scoring is amazing. But if you can score and play every other part of the game you are instantly better. No questions asked.

I have never said that they should take Laine over Matthews. What I said was they needed to do their diligent best to evaluate both players. Long term I think Matthews is the better choice. Short term however, Laine will likely burn up the league and be the easy winner of the Calder. It is about perspective.
