2 things. how big of a deal would you go for him?

then, if you get him, how would you line it up?

giroux/stammer/coots down the middle

oooooor

giroux/stamkos one line, then coots/jake on another.

If it wasn't obvious already, I was not 100% serious. I don't want Stamkos and have written much on the subject here. Not only is he not necessary or prudent at that cost, I don't think he is worth it. The last couple years he has been trending down, even adjusting for league scoring, and even in the analytic stuff. There was once a point he was an undisputed top 5 forward. It's probably in the 20-ish range now. In fact, he has been no better than the much maligned Jake or G. Beyond zero interest in making him the highest paid player in the NHL and having to deal with that contract as it pertains to paying our prospects. And that's IF he stays healthy.

I think from this summer through the start of 17-18, we'll see a lot of new players in orange and black. Without taking FA and trades into consideration, we will see by Oct 1, 2017, something along the lines of:

Out: Umberger, Read, VDV, Bellemare, Streit, AMac, Schultz, Neuvirth

In: Konecny, Leier, Lindblom, NAK, Provorov, Morin, Sanheim, Stolarz

- BiggE

We're going to have to win 2-1

I agree with you 100% Bill on Couturier

I'd also like to see them leave Schenn and Simmonds with Giroux and put Jake on Couturier's line. I think playing with an offensive winger with speed like Jake, will only continue to help bring out his offensive game.

Who is the 3rd line center so you can allow Coots to play in more offensive roles?

It should be Scott Laughton. He needs to bring it big time this coming season.

Call me crazy, but I would rather lose every game 1-2 than win every game 6-5. (frank) offense, scoring, and fun. Shot blocking, traps, and passivity are the life for me.

I think linemates are most important for him, and that's what I think BiggE was saying. So as long as he has top 6 linemates, that is enough for him to provide offense. Like Bergeron, he will always and should have the tough usage. His game is making lemonade out of Tabasco sauce. It's why he is a rare player.

Personally, I don't subscribe to 3C=shutdown C. If the Flyers got another Coots like player there, awesome! If they get a scoring center, awesome too! They don't really have either is my issue looking at the organ-eye-zational situation. Even if they got a more standard 3C, he wouldn't be better at it than Coots. It would probably help Giroux more than anyone, not that he is drowning exactly.

honestly, i should have gotten that. i do remember vaguely you going on a rant about him not being necessary now that you mention it. my apologies. ive been a somewhat bad poster lately (if not always). during the day i pop in just to have something other than bar prep lectures, and during gametimes i've been anything but sober lately.

I don't either, I want a 3C that can score at ES, and play in the forecheck game. I do however want a 3C, that take his share of the dirty work to take some of the load off of Giroux and Couturier, to free them up. Giroux especially is wearing down as the season goes along.

I don't think anyone is saying Sean Couturier can't score, it's just that he doesn't score with consistency. These are pretty old chips, especially seeing how he's celebrating with Marc-Andre Bourdon. I view Couturier more as a playmaker in the offensive zone but a healthy Couturier has to start putting up 20 goals a season.

I feel as if ever since Keith Primeau was placed into a shutdown center role by Ken Hitchcock, the expectation has become Keith Primeau. Primeau was a second line, secondary scoring guy who changed his role and did it well. Now I believe Sean Couturier has spoke out that he didn't want to just a checking center but who is really that much better than Sean Couturier within the role? Scott Laughton has room to grow but I'm a little disappointed in what I see of him so far. I was hoping for more balance down the middle from Giroux, Couturier and Laughton in terms of two way game.

I'd be fine with that but he seemed to be better as a winger

Let us all take a moment and congratulate Evgeni Malkin on the birth of his son. He looks so much like his papa!

His speed and shot work to his advantage more on the wing for sure. I know before the season started, a lot of us thought Laughton would step in as that 3C that could take some defensive workload off of Couts. Whether our expectations were about right or perhaps a little too high and carried away, clearly it didn't go the way we all wanted/thought. Hoping the long summer will allow him to recover from that nasty collision and come to camp ready to go

If only No Show Joe was more like that real elite player who put the team on his back in the playoffs named Ville Leino.

At least the sharks got all the way to the SCF before choking this time.

Maybe Pavelski is hiding in Thornton's beard?

Jesus Christ Almighty.

Absolutely hate that style of play, and the coaches who continously preach it. Thats trash hockey.

Don't hate them. Something European/soccer-y about them....I liked the old panther on the crest though, but this isn't bad either. Really not bad imo. It's different.
