skippy, jsaq, tangent... there's a lot of people who were the back bone of this thread in the summer and drove a lot of conversation and even more non sense.

I enjoy the summer postings... not as hectic, a bit more patch work, plenty of room for off topic greatness.

It's going to be odd around here this off season if a bunch of these people bail for real instead of just taking self imposed breaks.

If only No Show Joe was more like that real elite player who put the team on his back in the playoffs named Ville Leino.

At least the sharks got all the way to the SCF before choking this time.

Maybe Pavelski is hiding in Thornton's beard?

He is Bjork. I know we were kidding around...but I think he really is.

Oh and while those are all funny, I thought the fact they included Jordan Weal was funniest of all.

I would die defending Coots, but to be fair, those goals have a lot in common: tons of time and space, no real back pressure. He has a solid shot, but so do pretty much all NHL'ers. He needs to work on getting space and driving the net more to use his shot. That he has a good shot is all fine and dandy, but if you really want to score goals in this league, you need to be able to use it. And that's easier said than done. Keeping on working on his first step speed will help that. His speed is fine, though he will never be confused as a burner. His acceleration still needs something. It often causes him to just stop moving his feet when on the puck in the o zone.

I'd like to see him move his feet on the puck more, have a bit aggressive predatory mentality, be a touch more of a risk taker with his plays. Being a cycle monster is great, but sometimes you have to be the guy who makes the play. I'd like to see this more.

- Mononoke

All of this.

I do believe he has the ability to make plays, or at least be the unsung hero who opens up ice for another line mate to make the play through good board work, etc.

Coots is an animal.

I go back and forth. Seeing him live gives you an appreciation for all the little things he does.

Sometimes I despise him.

I'm not sure why but these playoffs seem pretty Vanilla.

I don't really care who wins, apathy rules the day. Congrats to whoever it is. In a way I want Kessel to get it just to give a big middle finger to Toronto fans.

coots is great. i think theres no reason his offensive game cant be a nick bonino type with a better shot.

then he has bergeron esque defensive awareness combined with jordan staal like ability to shield the puck and engage the boards.

his biggest issue is the team wants him to basically be the second and third line center all at once.

Flyers need a 3rd line center. I am still one of those that (gasp) believes in size having use and don't want some wussy team to watch. So a 3rd like C with size is the hope.

I want Konecny on the wing with Couturier and Brayden.

A top 6 of G, Jake, Schenn, Simmonds, Couts, and Konecny looks good to me. A 3rd line center could really be a great add to go with Read/Raffl or Raffl/Laughton.

Read can go off into the sunset with Richards.

I want more speed and size in that bottom six. Matt Read is palliative. Irrelevant to the future cup aspirations of this club.

Give his spot to a kid.

Oh trust me I agree and want him gone too, I'm just assuming he is with us opening night. I'd rather give Leier a look. Or if we have to, go FA

The saying, "He doesn't have soft hands" probably is the most abused line of crap in hockey. These so called "Soft hands" are always mentioned when a goal is scored, or on a goal scoring streak. How many times did you hear how soft Crosby's hands were during a goal drout in the playoffs ? ZERO times !

Cizikas (63 points in 230 games in the past three years) got paaaid.

Isles Sign Casey Cizikas To An Extension (5 years, $16.75 mil [3.35 AAV])

He is only 25 and could well be a 30+ point 3rd liner going forward. But it makes Raffl (81 points in 217 games) seem like a bargain.

He is the next Wheels/Umberger.

I find my scapegoats early.

Honestly though I think they eye 3C for Konecny in the future. Don't see anyone appealing in FA this year or next really.

Lol "Nick Bonino type." gtfo

Berube was ripped for saying Bergeron does the second/third line center thing all at once...so why can't Coots? Given that Bergeron had Marchand and Smith among other great players as linemates, and Berube used Coots with a dead Umberger and a half-dead Read and expected offense, it was very unfair and confusing bc he didn't allow him to be that. And he still produced 2C scoring. But Berube wasn't wrong either....Bergeron does do it. Just as hard minutes and zone starts as Coots. He is really his closest comparable to his usage. But this year proved he CAN do it, provided you make the task remotely possible by giving him worthy linemates. That is what makes Coots pretty special: he can do that monumental task and dominate doing so.
