Where did this idea that we have any intention of re-signing Lovejoy come from? He's as good as gone already. His play in the playoffs this year has easily doubled his current contract value & possibly tripled it (for a team that really needs a vet defenseman that has reasonable puck skills & mobility) if a team is desperate enough. He's already gone & any notions that anyone has on keeping him are a pipe dream unless he's an idiot & just really REALLY wants to play here, because we're not even remotely interested in him at his likely market value. He's a good teammate & a stabilizing influence on the bottom pairing. But that's it. He'd be much better off going to a team with a number of young defenseman that need someone to play a vet mentor role in the 4-6D range.

Lovejoy is also right handed which only adds to his value.

It's poor quality but worth checking out.

Yes female genitaliaour opened up a whole new world of pain on himself & his team! If I was his team mate I'd punch him in the face & knee him in the balls & tell him to shut the (frank) up!

I think the new look for the Florida Panthers is great. Their old look was really goofy. They're entering an era where they'll be contenders. It's fitting they're adopting a new big boy look for it and doing away with the cartoon cat.

Isn't this well known? Also isn't it why he looks fat? Something about it made him retain water weird or something? Idk I'm probably wrong for the 10000th time on here. Haha
- Zac_O

No it's pretty well known and you're right the chemo pills he has to take still is what makes him look goofy. I'm surprised at how many people don't know about this though. When I went to Joe Louis, I was bsing with some wings fans and they literally had no idea when I dropped that factoid.

If the cap is flat rutherford is going to have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. Have to figure out what Schultz or lovejoy are going to take to resign. Then he has to figure out the trade market on potential cap casualties - fleury Kunitz and Daley if you have to. Then on to Cullen who we need back hopefully vet minimum....he's made a lot so if he wants to play next year I can't see him leaving for an extra million.

Blackhawks with the short window really made some bad decisions that hampered there run this year. I don't think we can count on finding as many in-season contributors for basically free next year. Have to start with a better base. We are not finding rust sheary Daley hagelin and Schultz quality assets next year.

- sditulli

We are not nearly in the same crunch as the Hawks. If we shop any one of MAF, Daley, or Kunitz there will be takers. Maybe not for Kunitz but I can still see it. There are still a couple of contenders out there that have cap space and both Daley and Kunitz only have one year so it's not like they'd be committing long term to a bad contract like Bickle. We also pretty much have everyone signed. We're not gonna run into a situation where we lose major pieces like Oduya and Saad. The only guys who we can anticipate losing are Lovejoy and Schultz. Lovejoy has priced himself out of here and as good as he's been these playoffs he's replaceable. And we can live without Schultz unless we decide to move Daley and then Schultz walks on us. That's really the only scenario I see in which we have a true, legitimate problem going into next season.

I actually have an office in DC so I get to eat at a couple of the original five guys down there. My favorite burger spot in the metro area is The Burger Joint in Alexandria...I love their stuff

It is very good. I have a son who lives in Rockville. Our favorite place though is the mussel bar. They have amazing food and beer, it's a Belgium restaurant. Killer mussels. The green Thai chili mussels are so good! There are several in the area but we like the one in Bethesda!

I've said this before, but I believe they try & sign Shultz to a friendly contract which if respectable I think he takes. Then see if Daley will do the same. Depending on Shultz $, Daley may get good $ & be fine with taking a 'little' less being on a contender. If Shultz leaves then Daley will be signed 100% (ok 98%).

If the team goes all the way this year I'm not sure the players won't take reductions - it's the agents that will push for big $ especially due to the win. I doubt Daley has any problem finding a team that will pay him well. It will depend on how happy he is in the Burgh.

Id keep kunitz and let him play out his contract. If we look to make another run next year you want kunitz on your team. people complain about contracts but if you want good players you have to pay them. and yes kunitz is still a good player.

Daley is signed through next season for 3.3.
I hope Schultz takes a 1 year prove it deal for less than 3 and loaded with incentives.

I mean yeah I want to see Kunitz retire a Penguin as much as everyone and I'd rather keep MAF and Daley than trade them, but this is a salary cap matter, not a matter of the heart. This offseason there's going to be a player that we don't want to see leave let go in order to stay cap complient if the cap doesn't jump up 3 mil.

FWIW, I think Kunitz is the least likely to be moved. I think the cap staying flat all but ceiled MAF's fate. He's the most easily replaceable out of the three prime candidates at this moment in time.

Here's a question.

If you're Shultz & you win the Cup & play well this year, you get a call from Chiareli.

Do you;

A) not answer.
B) answer & laugh in his ear very loudly
C) listen to him entertain the thought before laughing extremely loudly in his ear
D) listen & consider the offer without laughing very loudly in his ear & call your agent to nut out a deal to go back to l'enfer?

Daley is signed through next year. As great as he's been for us, he shouldn't be resigned. As a general rule of thumb I avoid giving hefty contracts to non-top pairing d men over the age of 30.

Yes I know Daley is signed through next year. Hence the reason they can make a decision based on what Shultz does as he is the immediate decision.

Keep Daley through his contract
Sign Schultz to a 1 year prove deal
Let Loverboy walk
Deal Kunitz
Sign a D man or bring one up
And potentially deal Flower.

There is zero chance Flower wants to share the net with Murray next year.
If they go into the season with both and Murray plays well, both of them won't last until December. It could also stunt Murray's development and make him resent the Pens for having to prove himself again after taking the team to the Cup finals. And it would definitely frustrate MAF.

I think too much is made about what players are thinking. Like this mess that Malkin is unhappy being a 2C when he has done literally nothing to suggest that. Fleury is a strong family man. Who's to say he wouldn't be alright taking on a reduced role in order to stay where his family has roots and reduce the chances of further concussions all the while collecting his 6 mil pay check?

That being said, he's the most likely to be dealt. He has the biggest cap hit and is also the most expendable.

Obviously not, but do you think he signed a new 3 year 5.75 (.75 raise) per to be a tandem?

He's 31 or 32, not 36 and up for mentoring the next gen. yet.

He just won team MVP and posted another 30+ win season. They guy wants to be "the guy."

Fine. Theres a 5% chance. I can compromise.
