Really I think if Tampa moves Bishop and brings in a young backup and runs with Vas they should be ok retaining Stamkos with a slight discount and the extra year while really being able to keep their other guys as well.
Wonder if Yzerman is talking to Uncle Lou in Toronto knowing the Leafs would likely have interest in Bishop who would not be too bad an option in net. - Roadrunner75
if bishop is looking for 7 years, than i think the leafs will pass. |

EK,
You do realize when Sid signed his contract, it ate up the exact amount percentage wise of the cap that Toews/Kane's current deals did.
He signed 12yr - 104mil (8.7 per). His cap hit was 14.5% of the cap
Toews/Kane's hit is currently 14.4%
So it wasn't that he gave (or any superstar players, for that matter) any "discounts". He signed for the market value. The NHLPA never wants superstars (and usually do not let them) sign for any "discounts"
It may appear to be one because of the cap increase since the day he signed it.
So expect Stamkos to get as much as he can wherever he can get it. As he should. - PatShart This is a very valid statement.

Anyway, why would calgary trade sucha good first rounder ?
In their shoes, I would offer a 3rd pick for Fleury...maybe even just a 4th since the Pens will be happy to get the cap relief |

#27 + Bishop, and if Bishop doesn't want to resign CAL can trade him off for a 1st + at the deadline. - mventres
GM’s don’t give up high quality young assets for guys with one year left on their deal heading in unrestricted free agency.
Doesn’t matter how many late 1st’s you throw-in. |

Penguins would jump all over that. They might even settle for a 6th round pick if you negotiate well enough. |

Don't no about that Murray can be a one hit wonder. You look pretty dumb if you trade MAF and he does well somewhere else and Murray bust's. |

When I saw "# 27" I thought you were talking about Jonathan Drouin. I just about lost it because it looked like you wanted Bishop AND Drouin for the 6th overall. |

Sidney Crosby should be making over ten million. He makes 8.7.
Actually, Ek, that's only his cap hit. If you look at the salary figures, he's pulled in 12 million per year for the past 3 seasons. Next year he'll be making 10.9m per year for 2 years, and it continues to taper off from there. They snuck his front-loaded contract in before the last CBA change (those types of deals aren't allowed anymore).

A consideration is, that Sid knew the new CBA would limit contract length to 8 years max. That's why he made the deal as he did for 12 years then. Try and get a longer deal before the contract limit comes into play. He gave up greater $ for term.

IF TB offers 9Mill and someone is offering 11Mill, no chance that Stamkos stays.
He is not leaving 14mill on the table. Also, that 1 extra year is not overly important. By 33yrs old, Stamkos, a workout fanatic will still get his big dollars on the next contract (cap will be higher by than as well).
TB going to have to come closer to 10mill IMO to retain. |

Oh, I wasn't trying to make it sound like the act of signing such a contract was unscrupulous (yet reading over what I typed, it could indeed be misconstrued as such). Giroux has a front-loaded contract as well, albeit his salary numbers don't fall as low since it's a lesser term. Just needed to note that newer contracts are balanced in such a way that salary remains consistent in each year. Hence why Ek thought that Sid was only making 8.7 (his cap hit) versus the "real" amount.
TL;DR: does Ek even GeneralFanager? |
