I remember the girl Sid was dating during the Olympics, he is doing pretty well himself

- Thorny

He's been with the same girl for 8 years now. Just completely out of the press.

I was just commenting on the one part of the article that I found funny. Am I not allowed to do that?
- BernieKorch

Your comments are misguided, because RW regularly says that ANY illegal hit should be suspendible, hits by Pens players AND against them.

I think theres a decent chance someone offers Schultz 4 years 16 million. He's not worth that yet, but he has a shot at making that a reasonable contract. That is probably close to the market for 4/5D 1st power play guy. My opinion is that's close to fair value for him since he offers potential of becoming a 3d. Depends a bit on how the cap shakes out.

Add in a premium for being a cup winning dman.

I think we have a decent shot at signing him for around 3.

- sditulli

If he takes 2 years at 3 from Pittsburgh and improves significantly he could turn that into a decent sized next contract. If he takes a bigger deal now with a weaker club he will get exposed again by the expectations. Hopefully he learned how much not playing up to expectations feels in Edmonton and does the right thing.

Of course you can. You can do whatever you want my non-friend.

"Your reporting is so biased that you lose all credibility"...that doesnt sound like you found anything funny.

Do you read the entirety of every single one of his blogs?...dont answer...I don't care.

- MattStrat

What I find even funnier is a clearly biased Flyers fan wanting "credibility" for any opinion he has on a Penguins topic. I know when I want level-headed, non-slanted, journalistic caliber opinion from an outside source about a Penguins issue, I always ask a Flyers fan and if I can't find one, a Caps fan. I mean, if it wasn't for those fans, I would never know just how 5hitty a player Crosby really was.

If we don't qualify Schultz (which I don't believe we should at 4M per) Do we get first dibs on offering him a lower contract? Can we not qualify him, but then sign him to a 3x3 type deal or do we have to wait until July 1st UFA day like all the other teams? Obviously I know if we don't qualify him Schultz has the right to see the offers on the open market if he wishes, but just curious if we can negotiate a "non-qualifying" offer pre July 1.?
- Willaged

If he does not get qualified he becomes a free agent who can't be signed until July 1. And can be signed by anyone.

Just the fact that his last two contracts as an RFA have been 1 year deals for 3.675 and 3.9 million, I seriously doubt he will do the right thing and come back down to earth

I've been praising their road game since February. I like their road game better. I think some of their best outing in the playoffs and regular season have been on the road.
- MattStrat

I've always thought they play a fancier game at home..... especially Sid... trying to give the fans their money's worth instead if just winning..... they can put a strangle hold on teams away from home that is borderline boring unless you're a fan of the Pens.

Yeah exactly. I find their road games to be equally hard working but much more simpler and focused.

How did a 4th line punchbag ever get into commentating?

If you have read many of my posts on these forums you should know how I feel about the Canadian hockey media in general. I dont think very highly of them. Of the bunch of them though I find Kypreos to be one of the more informative and respectful analysts out there. The fact that he's actually laced them up before and has a cup ring to boot probably does that for me.

For the record I dont agree with him here at all.

Fleury goes before Malkin.

Once Murray needs a new deal, then Malkin goes.

Thats the order I see the chips falling in IF they fall at all.

For as much of a mixed bag these playoffs have been for Malkin, I think the Malkin is expendable crowd grossly underestimates how integral he is to our depth. You take Malkin out of the equation and all of a sudden you have Cullen centering Kunitz and Rust. That doesn't, nor should it, strike fear in opponents hearts as a legitimate top 6 line. We'd go back to having a top six and a bottom six without Geno rather than these three potent lines. I don't think we make it past the Lightning like that.

We won't need to boot Malkin to extend Murray and Dumo next year. Both Kunitz and Daley are off the books by then. We will make it work

There's not really any reason to trade Malkin at all, even when Murray needs a new deal. Sid, Geno, Kessel, Letang, Maatta, Dumo, Murray... they should all be here until the end of the 87/71/58 era.

Yeah exactly man. To my eyes, it looks like Geno is finally starting to put it all together again and find chemistry with his line mates. That makes the team so f'n lethal.

When does Fleury get moved and what does he fetch?

Also, what does Murray's first NHL deal looks like if he keeps this up?
5.5 for 5 years?

Yeah I'd take a look at how the Price and Holtby deals panned out when assessing what Murray will get after next season. My bet is he makes 3-4 mil AAV for two or three years after next year and then assuming he doesn't fizzle out he'll get ~6 mil with term. Malkin doesn't need to be cleared to make room for that. Moving on from Kunitz and Daley and likely Bonino and eventually Hornqvist will make enough room to sign Murray to his various future contracts as well as Dumo and the rest of the WB5, at least the ones we choose to keep long term.

If the cap doesn't jump he'll be moved this offseason for pucks. If it jumps he'll either be moved this offseason if the right deal comes around or next offseason likely for pucks.

Murray will be bridged.

I'm a bit surprised that is even a topic right now but I do have to agree with him. The problem is that the Pens are going to want to stick with this 3 line attack so they need to get a solid 2C in return or be able to go after one in free agency (Backes or Stamkos). These teams are all ripe for the picking right now and could offer a very attractive return.

Colorado - Mackinnon or Duschene+
St Louis - Pietrangelo +
Edmonton - RNH ++
