I'm a bit surprised that is even a topic right now but I do have to agree with him. The problem is that the Pens are going to want to stick with this 3 line attack so they need to get a solid 2C in return or be able to go after one in free agency (Backes or Stamkos). These teams are all ripe for the picking right now and could offer a very attractive return.

Colorado - Mackinnon or Duschene+
St Louis - Pietrangelo +
Edmonton - RNH ++

So.... if you already have the 3 line model.. why are you trading one player away from that model, that makes it so successful? Stamkos and Backes are not the player Malkin is.

They will not get someone of equal skill back for Malkin. I get that. If you trade Malkin it is a play to get a 2nd line similar to the HBK line. So if you can get a guy like Mackinnon or Duschene and have extra cap space as well I think its a win. You get younger and you can go out and pick up a legit top 6 winger with the cap space.

Malkin is an awesome talent, the Pens have been lucky to have him. But you cant forget that he hasnt made it past 75 games played since the last time they won the cup, 08-09. If you can move him now at a high point and get a great return it should be considered.

Tonight more than ever before Murray needs to display that prize fighter arrogance/ self-confidence that he's so obviously full of. This will be the toughest test yet. I say he embraces it. Here we go.

MAF is the only player of any substance that will be moved this summer. Malkin is likely a Penguin lifer. He will go back to the KHL around 35 but it will be as an all time Penguin great.
