Have a question, if you pay MM what he wants, what do u pay Cizikas?? Bc he's a better player than MM
- Ur Not Me

Cizikas is a 4 million dollar guy. No question. If the isles were smart they would extend Cizikas at 4 million for term. 5,6, heck i'd even give him 7 years.

Have you ever met anyone in the league who plays that role? Most of those guys have screws loose. But to you, this guys has similar TOI vs his corsi, and his hits total is 17 lesss than MM on a saturday with the home jersey on, so yeah he can replace MM. Whats unique about MM? Well lets see, his a cog on the wheel of arguable the isles best line. I havent looked this up, but im sure you will......which line on the isles has the most offensive zone presence with their TOI? Id be willing to guess its the MM/CC/CC line. Matt Martin has chemistry with that line......its just that simple.

So Martin's chemistry isn't replaceable? It's most certainly not his hockey acumen that results in said chemistry. That line, as a whole, is effective because they are a high-energy line that likes to put major pressure on the opposing defenseman and create havoc. There is no reason in the world to think that another player can't do what Martin does.

Imagine Martin was replaced with a guy more like Cizikas? They would be an even faster line with the potential to score even more. Sure, maybe they wouldn't produce the most hits in the league for a line, but they may do a lot more damage on the scoresheet while still doing what they've always done.

As far as the offensive zone time statistics, I'd have to do way too much digging to figure all that out.

$4m for a 4th line player, geez, sorry but he's not worth that. Then what do u pay Cal after this season $6m? Clutterbuck is the best of all 3

You have all day......dig away. Phuck sakes, you did the entire isles taxes for 2015/2016 in a day.

As for the chemistry, its not as simple as you think. But, for the sake of discussion anything is possible yes. But, for an isles team who LOVEEEEE their own, I don't have a problem with "overpaying" 500k for MM, or even giving him more term to equal it out.

First of all, that is not a "4th line". For a line to have the most O zone presence etc, i think calling them a 4th line is not accurate.
Clutterbuck and CC should both get 4 million......maybe even more. They are both important cogs to the wheel. Both can take draws, both can snipe, both can block shots, hit etc, and both can play the PK.

It's an interesting strategy.... Tie up the most cap space in your 4th line.

Are you serious??? Do you know how much money is wasted on guys who dont contribute on this team? Bailey, Grabovski (who cant even play a full season), Bernier, Zidlicky.....heck Brian Strait. Thats over 10 million and brought nothing to the table....

I know Cal has had prior seasons of 15g or more but to say both can snipe is an understatement......

I can't figure out why this 500k number keeps coming up. 500k more than what exactly?

It seems like the general consensus from those who don't agree with you is that Martin is worth around $2M, but we'd be willing to go up to $2.5M if absolutely necessary. So in that sense, we are OK with paying 500k over what we believe he deserves. "Overpaying" by 500k is completely subjective to what you think he deserves. If you're saying he's worth $3M, then (for me) that's overpaying him by $1M and I can't accept that.

I will continue to call it how i see it. Again, i find it ironic that the guy who rocks the name Vukota, is flagging my post. On a free website, you don't have the right to decide anything.

In 8 seasons Cal has a total of about 96 goals sorry but that's not sniper material no matter how good his wrister is.....

What about the fact that he's had the most GWGs this season? With a minute to go coming up with the GWG sure seems like a snipe to me...

Right, and that $2.5M (this is purely based on my own feelings) is already calculating a 500k overpayment, because I don't think he's worth more than $2M. So that's where we're going to have to just agree to disagree.

Everyone's perceived value of any player will vary, so in this case I am figuring in a 500k overpayment, based on my own valuation of what Martin does for this team. Doesn't mean that what I say is the law by any stretch of the imagination, but that's where I'm at. And based on Staple's article today, it seems like the team has somewhat similar views.
