Oh for sure he is, no question.
The way I see it, Soshnikov plays a Babs type game. No matter what Lou says, they aren't going to have 7 rookies on the opening night roster, even if they all deserve it.
Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Zaitsev are locks for the opening night roster. And I think that both Hyman and Soshnikov are making it over Brown. At least to start the season. - SameOld

Babcock said that brown was ready at training camp last year only reason he didn't stay was numbers game. With the one yr guys like boyes they didn't have room for brown. He's shown to be a better player than those two, so why would they make it over him? Hyman probably least likely out if that group. |

also Nylander should stay on the wing |

I have to creep on here as a Jets fan I only get a Jets thread once a week or so, outside perspective on Leafs goalie situation. I would be targeting a B+ prospect goalie around 20-22 on a team that has goalie prospect depth. This would be cheaper than going after a Gibson/Anderson, Murray/Fleury type. The re-build you guys are doing looks great but you have to remain patient!! 80% of top propects will not make a real impact ( outside of some beautifull flashes) in the NHL untill age 22-24 so kids like Marner, Nylander and others are a few years away from making a true diference. Why get a goalie now who's 25-28 and somewhat waste a few years? go after a guy like Jarry, Comrie, Subban as example. The Jets, Pitt and Boston all have multiple goalie prospects under 24. I would also 100% draft at least 2 goalies with all your picks this year |

Next year will be a numbers game as well. Like I said, I just don't see there will be 7 rookies on the opening night roster.
While Bab's may like Brown a lot, he LOVES Hyman and Soshnikov.
""(Zack) Hyman and (Nikita Soshnikov) are here to stay,” Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said in a scrum with local reporters after a 4-3 shootout win over the New York Islanders on Wednesday. “They’re real players. They’re going to play. They’re just too good, too hard, and too fast with too much work ethic so those guys will play.”"

"Take Babcock's recent statements concerning Brown, Zach Hyman, William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov:
"Willy could have easily been on the team from training camp , so could have Brownie [Connor Brown]. They could have been on the team right from the get-go and we chose not to do that for a number of reasons.

Babs loves Sosh and Hyman...only they can play themselves off the leafs.
If Babs really wanted Brown on the leafs, he would have been on the leafs. |

None of those guys are really worth going after. Not any better than what we currently have

We'll see how this training camp goes.
Maybe they all make it depending on trades. |

I would say draft one if they feel its the best pick..but dont go out of your way to make sure you take X amount of them. Assuming expansion does happen... there should be a few goalies on the market. |

We have bernier for the year, draft the best goalie available this year.
Assess what you have at the end of the next year and go from there. |

I'd advocate the following:
Draft a goalie every year for next 2-3 years between rounds 3-5 and just hope one of them pans out. I don't know how successful drafting the best goalie available has turned out, but theres definitely been some busts/stagnating development recently, ie, Markstrom |

I would LOVE to obtain tkachuk. Maybe the 5th over all gets him if Edmonton take a D man. (Which they should)
The cost would be high though.

That damn CHL rule... I thought for sure Marner was going back next year but he definitely made his case not to. He will have a damn good resume now but will still have to prove he can hang in the NHL or back he will go before game 10. (Is it 9 max? I forget)
I think we might see quite a few more 1 year deals this off-season and another bottom-ish finish. |

I dont believe the leafs have the dman the oil need. |

By that I mean the KHL team Amur Khabarovsk. |

Play him on the leafs.
Send him to the jrs.
I doubt we see too many one deals...our roster is pretty full right now, unless trades occur. |

They interviewed chiarelli during the intermission of London's 2nd game of the MMC. He said the obvious about being open to trade options etc, and briefly talked about scouting eligible D, but then he went on to mention that the Knights had a really really good option that would be available at 4 as well, and his eyes kind of lit up.
It was obvious that he was impressed with what he saw out of tkachuk, and I can only imagine his stock rose with his performance over the last 2 games, all while playing with a high ankle sprain.
my guess is the oilers draft tkachuk. |

How so?
The sens have quality D, young talent, decent forwards....none of which the Leafs had in their darkest days. - Fakepartofme
Meddling delusional owner.
Trading for Phaneuf.
Battling for 9th.
800 coaching changes.
No Hugh end elite prospects.
Yong talent thats pretty average.
Hardly any players at some of the bigger tournaments.
Perhaps I should have said Darker instead of Darkest? |

Khabarovsk
Very nice city, the people are very friendly
Birthplace of my son, and, coincidentally, Alexander Mogilny, one of my all time fave NHL players.

You could be right. But he also could have been talking about Olli Juolevi.
I would offer Jake Gardner plus.. Don't know what it would take though.
Matthews between Marner and Tkatchuk would be sweet.
