I know that , but just because you draft first doesn't give you a boniafide star.

If van drafts Keith.... I mean Matthew ktachuk. I would throw him in the lineup, even if he's not ready!

Absolutely not.

Actually I just looked, Erik Johnson (2006) played one year of college hockey before he played for the Blues.

The Leafs have three top 5 picks and 2 top ten picks in the past eight years, they've been building for awhile...whether they think so or not.

So in nine years of drafting they've had 1st, 4th, 5th, 5th, 7th & 8th overall. That's probably more top 10 picks than the Canucks have had in the past 20 years?

Yes and Mathews is a very good jr player who will probably do very good . Time wil tell, but when I hear names like Nylander being thrown out I think Eberle. I hear Marner I think RNH. Let them make it out of the bottom 10 once before they come in here beating their chests

I can't see him playing two more years of junior. Next year Van will most likely get another high pick, maybe even an NHL ready player. Boeser lights up college again turns pro. You then have an 18, 19, 20 year old rookies on your team all without NHL experience.

Play him with Cole Cassels. They must have some chemistry being on the same junior team. Cassels might even turn out to be that top line centre like everyone here predicted.

Nope....but for the Canucks, I just looked, it 25 years since they've had six top ten picks.

Lmao really ppl thought that? I was hoping for a good 3rd line centre. Hopefully he has a good summer of training.

Haha heck if he makes and contributes in the NHL for Van someday, I'd call it a win.

The Canucks have actually had 26 top ten picks, but two of them are not from poor finishes. 2005 they won the 10th overall pick and the Corey Schneider trade got them the 9th overall in 2013.

That sounds like a lot, but remember, this was an expansion team in 1970. 18 of those 26 picks came between 1970 and 1991.

Our biggest need this draft will be centre so Tkachuk having a great game is very good for the Canucks and Dubois.

I understand about teams being proud of their prospects but we play in the West and have to build a West style team.

Smaller players like Nylander and Marmer may do well in the East but would struggle out West. We had a chance at Nylander but took Virtanen because he is a bigger body banger that we need . There is another skilled Nylander in this draft and once again we have no interest. We need big bodies skilled players.

The West has won 5 of the last 6 years and the Eastern team that won was the Big Bad Bruins.

I have no doubt Mathews will be a very good player , but he will be surrounded with little support. There are other teams with decent prospects like Oilers Jets Sabres Flames that live in the basement too.

Team building is more than getting a number one pick and boom success.

TO has 11 draft picks this year but you can't have 23 rookies on your roster, and their supporting cast is weak. When they make the playoffs or Oilers make the playoffs we can rehash this topic.

I am also leaning toward Dubois, as good as Tkachuk is if Dubois can play wing and Center he could maybe turn into a success like Monahan has for Calgary, and could maybe step up and take over the reigns for Henrik.

I read that and seemed like a bit of a stretch, Lucic was partially a Benning player in Boston and inquired when Boston was going to trade him but wouldnt give up the cost
- phyllee

True, and the writer also pretty much states the same sentiment, obviously there are pros and cons to acquiring Lucic, but I think the cons outweigh the pros.

Keep up the fight in here. I can send you some of Shanny's and Babcock's press conference quotes if it will help.

Is it a point by point breakdown of the next 10 years of TO's current 50 year rebuild?

None of us know the guy, and I suspect that writer doesn't either, his teammates in both Boston and LA said he's a great team guy. He's ultra competitive and let's his emotions get the better of him at times, I could say that about a lot of great players.
