Has any read these...

This guy doesn't understand the CAP and how it works. Bishop is awesome but he will command a huge contract and is turning 30, Vasy is 21 and plenty of time to learn and grow. He had a .921 save percentage where the Penguins averaged around 40 shots per game against him. The Pens outplayed the Lightning, nothing Vasy could do - they didn't change their D because Vasy was in net it was just the Pens were all over the puck. I do agree the Bolts will have a hard decision and will have to go with 1 going forward, once we see the dominos start to fall we will have a better understanding of who the future goalie is.

I hate seeing opinion pieces on Bolts sites like they are facts. At least Eklund from my time on this site has only had respectable writers with Michael, Ty and Erik.

Unfortunately, this kinda hack writing is becoming more and more common place for Lightning Bloggers. I've had MANY disputes with people like this that claim fandom, but then spend there days ripping on Yzerman, Cooper, the players, the fans, a combination of them or even all of them. This kinda "fan writer" is to be expected as the team Grows in popularity. These are people that are looking for views and comment to generate money. This is click bait, not more.

At a certain point, we had a writer that was headed in that direction.

He was fantastic against Pittsburgh, but I'd sell high on Vasilevski. He may go on to have a great career, but if you can get Calgary or Dallas to bite and offer a good package I would move on it.

Not sure what it is but Russian goalies seem to come out of the gate on fire and then just drop off the face of the earth. Bobrovsky, Varlomov & earlier Bryzgalov went from great to not so great very quickly in their careers.

Hoping Tampa just decides to stick with the best tandem in the NHL so Fleurys trade value goes up though.

I think you overreact abit about Stuarts critisism of Cooper. It was justified at that point.

Just because you love the organization you dont have to agree with every decision they make. Its not a dictatorship.

I understand that, but his criticism was borderline manic. He had nothing but unfair and harsh words for Cooper.

No chance.

Bishop should get a good return, but the 6th overall isn't going for a guy on expiring contract, let alone a guy of bishop's age.

It'll be a return of quantity vs. high quality.

Schneider in I believe his last year of his deal was traded for #8 overall

Bish has proven more than Schneider at that point

But in this mess of avaliable goalies, Bish is the only proven one.

MAF, Smith, Ward, Reimer, Pickard, Howard, Niemi, Lehtonen, Pavelec.. Its not like thats a sexy group of goaltenders. If a team really want to make a serious improvement in net, its Bish or Andersen who are the main players. So its a cap question, if you have room Bish is your main target and if you are close to the cap then Andersen makes more sense.

I completely agree. Its time to buyout carle. It will save close to $2.5 million next two years. We should be able to trade bish for a higher end top 4 dman.

Bishop is a great goalie. I say the bolts should keep him one more year and give more chances to Visleveski next year to see how he handles himself with more responsibilities outside than playoff hockey. Unfortunately, as good as bishop is, you are not going to get much better than a middle first round pick, def not a top 4 D. That's what you should expect to yeild from trading tenders these days.

This really sucks.

*NMC contract must be protected in expansiondraft and count to the teams total protection "pot"
*Coaches challenge is here to stay
*Probably no Olympics (shocker )

I didn't realize that Bishop has a NMC.

I would think he would like to come back home to St Louis and would waive it for a trade here... Let's make a deal!

I guess that ends the "which" goalie debate. At least we don't have to "protect" a crap goalie like Lehtonen. Protect Bishop, then depending if vasy is snatched up or not extend Bishop. It's not the end of the world.

Will expansion draft be held this summer or next?

Next summer for 2017-18 at the earliest. Bishop would be a pending UFA. Would not be required to be protected even though he has a NMC.

It would be held next summer.

Which would complicate things for Tampa if they haven't resigned Bishop to a new deal.

If I understand correctly, the expansion draft would happen in June after the playoffs. So pending free agents who had NMC would have to be protected, and then possibly be free agents the next month.

Which could mean losing both goalies if Vasy gets taken in the draft (and he would be a prime goalie candidate) and then Bishop becomes a free agent.

Why wouldn't they have to be protected?

If they are under contract, they are on the roster.

The NHL is not going to force a team to protect a player for a season in which he is not under contract for.

Early reports indicate 2 options:

7F, 3D, and 1G

Or

8 skaters and 1G

In a way too early protection selection I'm going with:

Filppula(NMC), Callahan(NMC), Kucherov, Drouin, Johnson, Palat, Namestnikov

Hedman, Koekkoek, Deangelo

Vasilevskiy

Koekkoek and DeAngelo doesnt need protection, they are not in their 3rd year as pros. And its baffling that you didnt include Stralman in that group.
