The problem is unless we get SS or some other good UFA we need a seasoned pro like Hanson....Once you know theyre here then he's expendable. But youre right that the right trades could make Van better for UFAs. So it's a gamble trading in advance of FA.

Any player following the canucks should be able to see the addition of Gudbranson and tryamkin with larson nilsson stetcher in tow should be able to see an up and coming strong D.

Teams with more than 10 million to spend have multiple positions to fill. Canucks roster is mostly filled with over 10 mil to spend. They are one of the few teams that can spend 12 mil.

So you can trade a piece for a pick or another good D and hope that attracts high end UFAs and risk being a seasoned player short and landing no UFAs....or you can wait till you get the UFA then trade the extra roster player for a piece after. Yet most trades will be done prior to the draft....would be easier if the draft came after opening of UFA season

Burrows and Higgins buy out gives you 3.5 mil more.

Sbisa and a fourth to any cap floor team for a 7 th is another 3.6 mil

Trade for Hansen Sven and a second next year for Vatanen
