19 will likely get a ratings reduction after his 58 point campaign. Hossa will also be downgraded. 72+88 should get a big ratings boost. - EnzoD

I find it intriguing that the two teams in the Stanley Cup final have goalies that are relatively unknowns. One making $628k the other $3m. Just saying. |

And chances are pretty good that by next year's All Star break one of them will suck. |

Expansion makes no sense. Relocate teams. You want a team in Vegas put the Coyotes there. Want another team in Canada? Move the young, on the rise, Florida Panthers team there. They will win games and draw huge crowds. Want another team in Canada? Move the Hurricanes up there too.
It's not rocket science. A league that wants to compete with the other major sports is trying to force feed teams into locations they have no business in. That is not a good business model......... There is a reason no MLB, NBA, or NFL team is located in Las Vegas. I'd put another team in Minnesota before I put one in Las Vegas. - bhawks2241
While I agree with you, the idea of having teams in the South wasn't a horrible idea when it was originally proposed. Most people from the North are moving South. And those people may be hockey fans. So the idea that new Southern teams will, at the beginning, attract hockey fans and fans that want to see their hometown team play, while building the fan base with kids. Now it hasn't worked that way. And I think the league thought there might be more season ticket sales with hockey fans, but I think it turned into a bunch of one-off ticket sales which is unsustainable.
Also, Dallas, Anaheim, LA and San Jose are successful teams that are in the "South" which also gave false hope for places like Arizona, Florida and Carolina. Still, if money weren't a part of it, I would vote for relocation. But, money is ALWAYS a part of it, so it's going to be expansion.

All kidding aside - I would guess they would stay far away from anything having to do with gambling.

Think LA may take issue with it. Unless they want to be called the Kardashians.

If the Penguins wins I'm not looking forward to the "everyone should go with a $600,000 goalie" argument that will come from the media. Also, given that Crosby and the Pens are a media favorite I'd expect to also something to the effect of "The Penguins are a true dynasty" from around the league. |

If $3MM and up is the benchmark for Ship now, and Ship is money driven, the Hawks are probably now priced out of the market for his services.
Ladd comments are interesting....does that mean there are talks going on to keep him?
Interesting summer for sure. - Return of the Roar
I hope not on Ladd......... old, slow, and too much money. We need youth, speed, and ELC'S or bridge guys .

That would be PREPOSTEROUS. They havent been to the conference finals since 2013 (when they were swept under the rug by Boston), and last won the cup in 2009. I'm sure there will be articles grasping at any straw IF the Penguins win the Cup. I worry that might be the case, as they are playing so well up and down the lineup and Crosby was unreal in game 1. Sharks need a win tonight |

Apparently there have been 3 Nevada pro hockey teams: the Thunder (AHL in the 90s); the Wranglers (ECHL in the 2000s); and a WCHL team in Reno.
LV also has a well-developed youth hockey program - The Storm, and the Flames - which run house-leagues and travel teams and a junior team - and the Heat, a girls only program.
This puts LV ahead of some of the other southern NHL cities - TB, Phoenix, Miami - which didn't begin youth hockey programs until the NHL arrived.
I got this information from a NY Times article, Jan 29, 2016.

A good argument - IF the goalie can play like Murray or Jones (or Vasilevsky).
Most can't. |

May be just what they need at LW, but he is a declining player. Will get overpaid on too long a term. |

I remember the Thunder and the Wranglers. I knew a few guys who played for one or the other. |
