Expansion makes no sense. Relocate teams. You want a team in Vegas put the Coyotes there. Want another team in Canada? Move the young, on the rise, Florida Panthers team there. They will win games and draw huge crowds. Want another team in Canada? Move the Hurricanes up there too.
It's not rocket science. A league that wants to compete with the other major sports is trying to force feed teams into locations they have no business in. That is not a good business model......... There is a reason no MLB, NBA, or NFL team is located in Las Vegas. I'd put another team in Minnesota before I put one in Las Vegas. |

Very well explained. Why is it so obvious for the average fan to understand, but the multi-million dollar executives are so clueless? |

My answer and probably the wrong one is two fold A) big turn over in on ice officiating the last couple of years and B) wellll then Stan Bowman has to go out and find the next Al Secord either by draft or trade to play with Toews. He already has a couple of concussion issues and they seem to target him ,instead of Bowman screaming from his suite " hey guys play nice", he should be looking for that type of fit. Other teams do it. I wouldn't be surprised if back room talking hasn't been going on and they are telling the refs, Let the boys settle it out there. With respect to the concussion issue ,I don't have the answers. Fans are probably throwing it out to the league, " come on its still hockey" let em play. you got me, all I can say is how do you go from almost 90 points to almost 60 ? Well Saad gone is one answer, being replaced with beer leaguers. On another note ,come on SJ, nice to see a new team win 1, especially at the hands of the little whiner! - wonthecup10
When did Toews get "almost" 90 points?

1/2 billion dollar franchise fee for a new team. Zip for a relocation.
C'mon PE, remind you again, follow the money. |

And it all goes to the owners - no split to the players. |

The players get about 20 new jobs playing in the show per new team but other than that you're right. |

In regards to expansion and the salary cap does the $500M expansion fee go towards revenue (because if so shouldn't the cap go up, a plus for the Hawks)? Also unless these teams face huge losses shouldn't the HRR (hockey related revenue) go up as well (again causing the cap to go up)? Obviously I have no idea but just trying to find a silver lining in all of this if it exists.

The expansion fee is not part of HRR - so none of it goes to the players or to an increased cap.
Unless the new team generates total HRR revenues (not profits) in excess of the average of the other 30 teams, the cap won't go up - and, in fact, it could have a depressing effect on the cap.
National TV deals, I think, won't increase with a new franchises - so for cap purposes, the same revenues must be spread over 31 teams instead of 30 (there may be some provision limiting the amount a new f Anchises would actually receive from TV revenues for the first year or two). |

Bettman's works for them - and does what they want him too. |

STL has mentioned that he was an accountant so I'd trust him more than me with big numbers and how to apply them. The only silver lining I can see for the players is more NHL jobs.
Let's face it, the commissioners constituents are the owners, not the players or the fans. The owners hired him to make them money, period, end of story. When he was hired it was more about a TV deal than anything else. But like I said, it's all green to them and they want more. He wiggles things around for the owners as best he can. And he's proven to be pretty good at what he does. I'm not crazy about how he goes about wiggling things, but have to give him props for being slick. |

kind of Sucks that we gave up a 1st and Dano for Ladd and Avs gave up a 2nd and a few low level prospects for boedker. Stan over pays at the trade deadline and gets under paid over the summer. At least the last the last 3 years.
I was starting to get a little excited after the Ship and Vesey comment but sounds like ship is staying for 2.5 mil and Vesey always felt like a long shot. |

Toews actually exceeded 90 pts. He must be clearly referring to his NHL16 ranking

19 will likely get a ratings reduction after his 58 point campaign. Hossa will also be downgraded. 72+88 should get a big ratings boost. |
