Just heard:

Hawks may go hard after Shipachyov and Vesey.

Also, depending on where the cap settles, there could be some "BIG SURPRISES" coming.

- John Jaeckel

Wow, that is great news! Still hangin on with a hope there is a significant deal coming somewhere down the line for a LW for the CAPTIAN .
Edit: Boys, Richard Panik was a nice little feel good story at the end of the year, that is all.
This bullcrap about him being penciled in as Tazers LW, is a fart in a wind storm, I bet Jonethan is shaking his head every time he reads some of that crap . I 'd put more stock into that Vesey kid being tried there then a fricken Journeyman 4th liner.
I ask this question, of the final 4playoff teams that were left , could Richard Panik be a #1LW on any of those teams, the answer is no! So why should Tazer be saddled with that stuff also. that was probably the very thing he got up in Bowman and MCD's Guzeetsa's at the end of the season exit meetings!

Cindy Crosbaby and Patrick Kane have been playing with bottom 6 NHLers on their lines for the last 5 years. If 19 didnt want to have 3rd liners on his LW, then he shouldnt have asked for 15% of the salary cap on his contract. Toews needs to elevate his game and make his linemates better like Crosby+Kane have done for years. Don't count on a legitimate Top 6 LW coming via trade. Don't get me wrong, I think it SHOULD be done and I have my fingers crossed....I'm just not expecting it.

Not hockey related, but I just watched "Admiral" on Netflix. It's in Dutch and follows the naval battles in the mid-1600's of Michiel De Ruyter (a famous Dutch admiral). Pretty good flick if you like war movies. Just have to be willing to read the subtitles.

You should check out Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Set in post WWI England about the street gangs. Very good and Season 3 just came out this week.

My B. Either way, Hayes is a nice young player and the two 2nds on Kimmo Timmonen were a complete joke. Knott is a big bodied winger IIRC. Hopefully he and Hayden can develop into middle 6 Power Forwards for the big club in the not too distant future.
- EnzoD

I wouldn't rely on Hayden in Chicago. Most that watch him says he disappears too much and his skating is not at NHL level.

In his three years at Yale, his game has taken a step backwards. Does not sound promising.

Agreed. Toews has had Hossa, Sharp, and Saad as wings. Kane showed up and played with garbage line mates. Versteeg, Richards, Handzus etc. The quality they've had as line mates prior to this year is vast. I don't want to hear excuses about changing line mates. I was pisssed when Toews used it as an excuse at the end of this year. You've never heard Kane complain about the guys he had as line mates (at least to the media). Generational talents make everyone around them better. Toews is paid like one he's going to have to.

Everyone who watches closely knows Toews had a down year... just looked a little slow. Injury, exhaustion? And I think his complaint was developing chemistry with the line. After all, Sharp and Saad basically stayed with Toews for the whole part of a year, whereas the rotating cast of 1LWs barely lasted even a few shifts. At least Kaner had a consistent 2LW in years past, even if he was crappy...

Of course, most importantly, Toews knows he had a down year. Let's see what happens next year by the New Year with him to see if he's stepped it back up.

Panik will be a 3rd line winger and a pretty damn good one. But will he be Hossa 2.0...certainly not.

Between Hayden, Knott, Iacopelli, and Bondra, it's clear that StanBo has been trying to add some size at Wing moving forward. If 1 of those guys can be a Top 9Wing by 18/19, that would be great. As for Toews, we are on the same page. Sure, Hossa could have had 25 goals this year if he hadnt forgotten how to lift the puck off the ice. But, when it comes down to it, the co-highest paid player in the league NEEDS to produce more offense next season. I think Q would be wise to put ??-19-88 and 72-15-81 together to start the season. I thought 72 had his best games of the year playing with Hossa as he was THE GUY making plays, and not deferring to 88. Panarin even said it in a summer interview that he likes to "be the guy" and make plays on his own. Splitting up 72+88 creates two scoring lines, something that was missing for almost all of last season.

Augello's latest blog (http://www.hockeybuzz.com...p-And-Moving-On/120/77305) has the Leafs forced to give up some D prospects due to over crowding. He seems to think that Percy might be one they part with since he was a pre-Lou pick. Would the Hawks still have interest? JJ had heard they did last year.

Agree on that possibly, but Hossa he is not! Not even a compatible to Brandon Saad. I still can't figure it out, if Panik was /is that good, what happened on Toronto and Tampa ? And why didn't another team grab him when he was there for the taking on waivers? I Just feel a little reaching for straws when I hear hear his name lumped on Marion Hossa's carpet!

We got Sharp for basically nothing from Philly. Panik was buried in Toronto. In his short stint playing here, he showed a lot of good things. Let him settle in.

I'd be happy if Panik ended up being on Versteeg's level (but just a different style).

I have been told by a somewhat decent source that Toews was not dealing with any significant injury.

What he has been dealing with has been about 50 percent line mates, and 50 percent frustration with the NHL game - specifically with officiating.

I mentioned this to someone in the Hawk organization - and was told I was on the right track.....

There is a growing dissatisfaction among a LOT of NHL players with how the game is being policed. It goes along the line of a penalty being called is more and more being seen as a potential reward to the team getting the power play than a punishment for the team guilty of the infraction. With fewer and fewer penalties being called, and players getting bigger, more injuries are being incurred - and some are intentional. The passion for playing this game at the level players want to play it at is being drowned out by the constant looking over the shoulder for the cheap shot - which many time is being ignored - especially in the 20 foot box around the net.

I can tell you one thing - when they came out of the lockout in 2013, most skilled players were THRILLED with all the calls being made in regards to obstruction. They believed the higher ups in the league office were finally understanding how the game should be played, but now are very frustrated with the eight steps back that have been taken since then.

In Toews case, he knows how the game should be played, but over the past few years, it has become too much of a nightly fight with all the crap play becoming the norm - and it is wearing on him.

You happen to see any of the Memorial Cup this year, especially the final London v Rouyn? Just fantastic fast paced, high octane, high end skill, back and forth hockey with great goaltending. ......Had to root for the Frenchies as I think London would have barely gotten in under the NHL cap!

I could live with only live CHL hockey if I had to.

Pens are showing a different way. Leaky D that simply moves the puck up and their top 3 forwards on different lines.

If this is true.....

Suck it up Nancy. You are paid $10.5MM a year to show up. You play through it and adjust unless and until the whistle blows, or not.

If it is your linemates, think about your contract's impact on the options the team has to help you.

Either way, no sympathy here.

No one on the Hawks is looking for sympathy.

But there was a mental wear on the core of this team - and Toews was feeling the worst of it. And from what was said - he would have felt it if he was paid 11 million or 1 dollar.

Also, there was some difference of opinion on how little practice time they had last year. While there was a unified belief they needed rests to be ready for April and May, there was concern that so many new faces needed practice time to better integrate with the core here.

It was left up to the coaches, but near the end of the regular season, there were internal rumblings that this team would not gel without more practice - and the ones saying it were proven right.

I am surprised at how many people are good with the thought of losing AA. Finally a consistent net front presence outside of Shaw. Big body that gave 88 and 72 room to work. Panarin's old linemate is 6 foot and about 180-190. I think that if AA leaves the Hawks will be back to a major hole at #2 center and Kanes numbers will regress

I think the thinking might be with ship coming in for a little less then AA u could fill the hole at center return a asset and save a little cash. AA was solid but he is 2/3 center that is below Avg at face offs. I also think if u got ship u would move Kane to line 1.

This constant kicking out of guys who perform on the biggest level for a guy who has never set skate on NHL ice has got to end.................................

This board female doged about a 2C for 7 years, basically got one and that line was the most dangerous line in all of the NHL, now after that 1 successful year, get rid of him for a guy who's never played in the league.

Panarin's don't grow on trees, he was/is an anomaly, be careful what you wish for, and try to remember how many posts there were about a 2C
