There is a lot of players that might not be elite defensively but at least they are capable of closing out a game and have their coaches trust defending a lead.

Playing Hall at the end of a game while defending a lead would not be a mistake because he is one of the best on the Oil in any situation on the ice.

In fact he is THE best LW on the Oil in every situation on the ice so it would be a mistake not to play him when you can.

Crosby, Benn, Giroux, Toews, Kopitar, Malkin, Backstrom, Bergeron etc are all those kinda players.

No. Malkin's two way game is no better than league average, if that. And Scheifele may be, but he's not an elite players so he's not valid.

Totally underselling Malkin. He might not be elite defensively but his D game is much better than league average.

Calling Malkin's D game no better than league average is a slap in the face to a player who could dominate 95% of the league 1 on 1. (and yes I realize the game isn't played 1 on 1 )
